  • Apple inadvertently leaks images of new 'iPhone XS'

Well, I listened, yesterday, to the Gruber podcast with Jason Snell. As others here have pointed out, a LOT of people would pronounce Xs as excess. After all, I’ve had Apple store employees pronounce OS X as os ex. People who should know better pronounce the X in Apple products as ex all the time.

i find it hard to believe that Shiller’s Marketing team, who told Gruber that they spent a LOT of time on the iPhone X name, wouldn’t notice this problem. Not so bad in isolation. Pronouncing X as ten isn’t a disaster, but pronouncing Xs as ezcess would be.

as they said on the podcast, Samsung would have a ball with Xs in their Ads. Why would Apple give them that fat target?

it will surely be interesting to find out what Apple decided.
I don't know, "Excess" doesn't bother me. Considering it's a luxury product and status symbol for many.

    iPhone eXcesS?
    No , it’s 10S.
Yeah... but no one I know calls it the iPhone "10". Despite what Apple claims.

  • Square adds Lightning connector to free credit card reader

"That still raises some issues, for instance a splitter of sorts will still be required if a merchant wants to charge their phone at the same time."

No, it doesn't, because that is a stupid use case. As a one-time merchant myself, I wouldn't hesitate for a split second to unplug my phone if I needed to ring up a sale. It's not even a concern in the slightest.

That being said, the wireless version is better, as it allows the use of tap-to-pay.
Yes it is, I’ve worked running booths at carnivals and fairs and used Square readers for all my payments. We’d have the phone plugged into power all day with a line of people there. Makes no sense to continuously plug and unplug power to swap for the adapter, especially when busy. Some may not have it be an issue, but losing the power port is definitely a downside for some wanting to charge at the same time as taking payments.
Then get the wireless one. If you're busy enough that you can't afford to unplug here and there, you can afford $49.

Apple's tiny AirPods are turning in mighty big numbers and the demand still exceeds supply. After using them for over a year I now know why.
How do they fit in your ears? Do you miss not having a strap for if you wanted to take them out and just wear them around your neck. I do that with my JBL wireless all the time. I would really miss not having that.
Mine fit great. Can just leave them in and forget them, no need to take them out. I can hear perfectly well with them in, and they're so light. Never had one fall out. The auto pausing is great too.

    These are solid ads.
Eh, I don't think so really. At least not on attracting new customers.

I think this whole ad campaign is great at making Samsung's customers feel better that they made the superior choice. It's preaching to the choir, so to speak.

I have trouble thinking the average person is concerned about the notch (considering just about every phone has one now), sd card slots (it may be expandable, but a pain when you need to transfer data if you outgrow one and don't have a pc), or split screen. At least not as buzz words.

If these things are truly important, than show it in action and sell the benefits, not just listen a few random things the iPhone doesn't have.
    1) I"m not sure what you mean by "new customers."

    2) I think these videos are good because they're targeting their base well. These are not for iPhone users (although they'd love to get some switchers from Android). On a minor level I think these are people that have never used a smartphone but have heard various chatter from the Android-using masses about how Apple doesn't do this or that and how Apple just charges you for for their brand name. Mostly, I think these ads are targeted towards Android users. People that already make those dumb comments about Apple sucks to justify their current crap device. These ads target those people.
Yeah, that’s what I mean. They’re targeting existing Android users, and the ads are mostly patting themselves on the back to people who already dislike Apple. It makes their existing users feel better that they made the right choice.

I dont’t think it’s nearly as effective on new customers. By that, I mean people presently not using Android. I don’t think any iPhone users are going to watch this ad and switch. So if that’s the case, why are they targeting Apple? What’s the point, other than fan service?
