  • Google's Pixel 4 phone implementing system similar to Apple's Face ID

Somewhere in the deep abscesses of Google's meeting rooms are people discussing how they are going to monetize the countless faces provided by this iKnockoff feature.

If they tell you/us that facial features will remain private, they are flat-out lying to your face.

I'm hoping the government checks in from time-to-time to make sure Google doesn't walk over the line on this one.  I think it's scary.

I don't know how useful the jedi gesture would work in real world practice, but for sure is the first time I see a feature and I say "that's cool, I definitely want to try it!". If Google nails these gestures (which is highly unlikely) it will push the industry to do something different.

Apple doesn't give a sh** about "oh that's cool", which is why these knockoffs fail when they TRY to innovate. Without Apple they're lost.

Remember wave-to-answer which Samsung thought was the future and iKnockoff Knights claimed was so "innovative" and "futuristic"?
Yeah, no one remembers. As usual, Androids failures get swept under the rug.

  • CBS All Access debuts in Apple TV Channels on July 29

Sucks to be the consumer these days.

For a while it seemed things were we’re lining up nicely to ditch the greedy cable companies and get great new tech deals with just a couple providers.

Now all the content tent is broken up as everyone and their mom are doing their own service.

Cbs sucks outside of a couple properties. No thanks. Disney + just killed a great value in Netflix, Apple doing their own, etc. sheesh. By the time you’re done, you spend more than cable.

It’s like music prior to iTunes. A mess.

And there is no one to fix it anymore.

Apple tried to fix this but no one cooperated.

  • NBCUniversal's challenger to Apple TV+ & Netflix is launching in April 2020

Here we go with yet another company that just has to have their own streaming service. When it was just Netflix, Piracy had been dropping down greatly. But as more and more of these streaming services pop up, Piracy started growing again. No one in their right mind is going to sign up to 10+ streaming services.

I sure as hell refuse to sign up for CBS All access. I'm sure not going to sign up for NBC Universal. I'll get my free NBC and CBS from the antenna. I'm already on the fence with Netflex and their huge price increase. Remember the days when it was CHEAP and so much worth it? It's ore than doubled since then.

"We believe we have a very innovative way of coming to the market that is very different than anything else and has very attractive financial aspects," said Burke. What a laughable comment that is. It's no different from everyone else.

Makes you realize how great an idea Apples rumored attempts at combining everyone's content into one platform was.

So instead of one $80 cable bill, we will have 8 $9.99 bills. I'm glad I ditched cable and just watch over the air and an occasional iTunes commercial-free movie. You can watch a lot of commercial free iTunes content for $80 a month.

Why do people ignore iTunes? Sometimes I laugh when people are choosing which streaming service to pay for next month when my iTunes library absolutely DESTROYS any content available on any of these services.

Some iTunes movies drop to $4.99 and that includes 4k Dolby Vision with Atmos! Some movies have even dropped to $3.99!!

  • 'SiriOS' predicted for 2020 WWDC - here's what it might be

    mpantone said:
This is retarded. There isn’t going to be a SiriOS.

Mangrove doesn’t understand the fundamental purpose of an operating system.

An operating system is a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs co-exist on the same system (platform). No one runs an operating system for the OS. You run it because it allows the programs you want to use live peacefully together.

macOS. An operating system for programs to co-exist on a Mac. iOS: for iPhone, iPod touch. tvOS. watchOS, iPadOS. See a pattern?

There is no Siri platform. Siri is not a platform or system. It is an interface, just like touch screens, keyboards, mice, trackpads, etc.

Unsurprisingly, Apple knows what an operating system is.

    Kinda closed-minded.

Why wouldn't a SiriOS work? I think developers could write cool programs for Siri.

  • Sales of iPhones down year-on-year despite popularity of iPhone XR in US

Apple must not talk itself into believing that it cannot gain more market share. It must act aggressively, speed up the cycle, and push more variety of devices, i.e., do what they have done to the iPad line up to the iPhone line up.
The problem is price, plain and simple. In 2016 the flagship iPhone started at $649. One year later the flagship model was $999. Even the Xr which is supposed to be the more affordable model starts at $749, $100 more than the flagship from 2 years prior. It doesn’t matter if the tech inside the phone or the materials it’s made with are more advanced/expensive to manufacture. At the end of the day the average selling price of the iPhone has steadily been going up. And consumers are starting to say no thanks, I’ll keep what I’ve got it’s good enough.

With the X I think Apple was testing how much of a price increase the market would bear (and the higher ASP would allow them to show revenue growth even when sales were flat to down). I think they got their answer. I’d be surprised if there are any price cuts this year and I’ll bet the XS gets removed from the lineup. But I don’t think we’ll see any price increases or storage configurations that push up the price. And I’ll bet we see Apple aggressively pushing trade-ins again.

The problem with this statement is that the iPhone X sold really well.
This affirmation is actually questionable for various reasons.

Apple never revealed any numbers beyond saying it was the most popular iPhone. It's all relative if the less popular iPhones weren't far behind iPhone X but didn't of course reach 'most popular' status. So, I think Apple made that claim for two or maybe three quarters and for the last quarter they said nothing.

That ties in with some analysts reporting at the time that iPhone X sales had dropped off faster than any other new release before it.

It was retired in the 2018 refresh and the first quarter of that cycle Apple issued a profit warning.

While we will probably never know all of what happened, it is very reasonable to speculate that the iPhone pool of purchasers simply ran out of 'financial steam' and sales dropped as a result.

Tim Cook said it sold well.

    Your theories are irrelevant.
