  • Apple says potential EU Apple Pay rules threaten security, stifle innovation

It would be obvious that Apple’s own code calls a defined API. Why is it such a big deal to open up the API to other vendors?
You want us to revert now to an unprotected OS where any app can call any OS function? We've already had this in the 1980s, it was called DOS. I loved DOS at the time, but now we have new features called "security" and "privacy" which requires protected OS functions. DOS is gone forever.
    Where did I say that?

  • EU may require Apple to give competitors access to Apple Pay tech

Contactless payment is an EMV standard. Apple didn’t invent anything, they just branded it and set themselves up as a payment processor.  Contactless payments existed for many years before Apple Pay was introduced. The US were trailing the world in payment technologies which is why these things appeared new to Americans.

With my bank card I can choose which payment processor to use when I make a payment, and I’m charged appropriately for it, but with an Apple device neither me or the merchant have a choice. Merchants pay fees depending on which processor is used as well.

The argument that the EU aren’t going after Google Pay is a false equivalence. Android allows other payment processors to access the NFC interface. How else do you explain payment systems from Samsung, WeChat etc on Android phones alongside Google Pay but they don’t exist on Apple products?

  • Apple's anticompetitive behavior has 'gotten worse,' Tile tells congressional panel

Apple was the first smartphone manufacturer with UWB, so that fact that Tile is still BT, ie, obsolete, has more bearing on this market than Apple's "anti-competitive" behavior.

Tile, create a UWB device, then fucking complain about Apple. Until then, enjoy the spiraling death of your niche product.
There are plenty devices with BT, it isn't obsolete, and Tile products work great.  But why would another manufacturer even make a UWB device if Apple doesn't allow access to the hardware?  Don't they think their products can stand against the competition?
