It wasn't a mistake -- Apple betas are now free
They have always had an unofficial free tier. I’ve never paid. Last year I was still downloading the Xcode betas.

Ok, fine they came out with it, thus I was wrong. Still, a different size. Still not feeling it needed to be announced.

More interesting is the port seems to be screwed in, suggesting it is replaceable. The ports will get more of a beating with USB-C vs the cable with Lightning.

Dropbox won't be able to sync to external drives on macOS
Why is Apple doing this? Security? With many people thinking of buying minimal internal storage, and using external storage for most things, this will not work. Even I bought minimal internal storage, to find out thinks like Audiobooks will not work from external storage. Really??? Those Audiobooks take up a good amount of space.Can’t some automation help in the Dropbox situation?
