An Apple manufacturer's VP has quit after talking about China exodus
avon b7 said:lkrupp said:avon b7 said:Hey, I pointed out some accepted facts.
Let's be fair. As you know I'm pro EU but not really pro or anti US/China.
Oh, and you are always touting and hauling ass for Huawei. What’s that all about? Whenever there’s talk about the iPhone market there you are yammering about Huawei. You hang around an Apple centric tech blog but you are always at the ready to tell us how Apple’s success is an illusion, a specter, fake news, posting links from god-knows-where as proof.
I have no problem with it though, because I don't rate people 'as people' based on a thread on an internet site.
...
...
Do you know why I rarely speak about Samsung? Because my only Samsung devices are TVs. I know very little about Samsung.
I talk about what I know and I know a lot about Apple and a lot about Huawei.
Sorry for the rant.

Gmail 2023 review: Free features still come at a cost
gatorguy said:So what is the privacy danger from using GMail? It's mentioned more than once, but the only example given is a promoted ad or two in the "Promotions" tab which hardly qualifies as an invasion of privacy.
The article then implies Google doesn't offer E2EE for GMail, but stops short of saying so. FWIW it does, and according to MacWorld "Google one-ups Apple with end-to-end encryption for GMail... tops Apple's new Advanced Data Protection". And from another article " (Apple)Mail is encrypted in transit, but not at rest. "Consistent with standard industry practice iCloud does not encrypt data stored on IMAP mail servers." Apple is physically able to give legitimate authorities your data"
There is an option to use encrypted mail, however.
So in the cons, there's only one, a very vague "Big privacy policy concerns" without any example given. If there's something else you might want to be specific.
As far as I know Google doesn't use the contents of your GMail for data monetization, ie, ad placement.
You’re right that Google doesn't use the contents of your GMail for data monetization, ie, ad placement Gatorguy. From the Google Keynote (Google I/O ‘22)..

From the transcript:
"We never sell your personal information to anyone or use the content you store in apps like Gmail, Google Photos, or Drive for advertising purposes. We also never use sensitive information like health, race, religion, or sexual orientation for personalized ads, period. We believe that the best ads are helpful, relevant, and safe."
I remember several cases of Google stating this in the last few years. The same thing was, for example, stated at Google I/O 2021..

I’m sure this is just Covid.
Xi literally said, and went out of his way to say, that his friendship with Putin is "limitless." He has previously said that he and Putin have very similar personalities. Chinese propaganda has also been mimicking Russian misinformation about the war in Ukraine. And now Russia has asked China for military assistance. This isn't conspiracy theory, it's conspiracy fact.
Oil is a red herring. There are not international sanctions against Russian oil. So it's not a problem for either China or India to buy Russian oil. What is a problem is sending Russia weapons (which Russia has requested of China, but we don't know yet what China's answer is) or helping Russia circumvent sanctions that do exist.
Your theory needs work, hence, why China needs to state explicitly that it is not shipping weapons to Russia.

China's word alone is worthless.
Fact. Russia, again, has invaded Ukraine. You must be under the illusion that resisting being invaded by Russia, is "unfriendly".
How's this war actually working out for you and China?
This is the part where China needs to "choose wisely".
https://uscnpm.org/2022/03/12/hu-wei-russia-ukraine-war-china-choice/Has China not already chosen Russia? From a Global Times YouTube video released today... (Global Times being funded in whole or in part by the Chinese Government.)Some quotes..."China is not obligated to promise not to export arms to Russia and Washington has no right to demand that of China....China will certainly continue to develop relations with Russia and Russia will continue to export energy, wheat and corn to China....By wanting to stop China-Russia trade, does the US think it is God?...China will not seek to ease the tensions with the US by damaging China-Russia relations"Whilst the guy in the video is a media commentator, I wouldn't imagine he is free to give his own opinions on such sensitive issues, given his backers. -
Microsoft OneDrive update coming soon will bring native Apple Silicon support
DAalseth said:mpantone said:DAalseth said:Is OneDrive available ONLY as part of Office365 or can you get it by itself?
Of course, you could simply answer this question yourself with something called a "search of the Internet." I'm not going explain what that is nor do that for you. Neither should anyone else here.
I am happy to help people on the Internet with random tasks but one thing I balk on is to encourage them to be mindless, lazy slugs.
I hereby bow out of further discussion in this particular thread.
Best of luck. -

Allowing a user choice of what applications to load on their own personal $1000 expenditure puts the onus where it belongs. The only legitimate reason not to is purely profit-based and not because they're "saving us from ourselves".
