  • Google now tries getting EU to force open iMessage

If Apple can’t make the argument that Google just wants to sell unsolicited “rich” advert-messages to annoy everyone on any platform, then I would suggest they simply shut off the Messages app in Europe, citing privacy concerns.

As the company admits, WhatsApp has won that market and the Messages app is less popular, so it would be no loss to them whatsoever.

WhatsApp are the ones who should REALLY be worried if Google gets its spammy way here. Being forced to allow Google Spamvert-messages will RUIN WhatsApp’s popularity.
Is Google really able to sell unsolicited advert-messages in Europe? My understanding is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires consumers to opt-in to such campaigns...

  • Google teases Assistant with Bard for iOS and Android

Sigh. All these marketing people want to link product names whenever a company integrates a separate technology into a new or existing product. "We have to tell people; if we don't tell them every time we mention the product, they won't know! And this way we can count mentions of the integrated stuff and claim it has a large impact. And AI is super hot right now so we have to reinforce our brand."

All it ends up being is a mouthful of ridiculous phrases that diffuses the identity of the product they want you to buy. I don't buy a "Ford Ranger with Diesel" or a "Ford Ranger with Petrol" - I buy a "Ford Ranger" and know that it comes in different versions. I don't want an "Assistant with Bard", I want an assistant so I check out all the capabilities - oh, the latest version comes with new AI features? OK, cool.

Some of these people need to learn that you don't tell, you show. Wait for the human brain's association process to kick in - we learn things one at a time and associate the new thing with what we already know. Naming things is hard, but keep it simple and you'll get better results.
The article is incorrect when it states 'Renamed "Assistant with Bard," as it now integrates with Google's ChatGPT-like service...'. Assistant with Bard is a new opt-in service that complements Google Assistant... so Google Assistant will continue to exist as a product alongside Assistant with Bard. As such it had to be named something....

When have you ever seen "sponsored crap" answers surfaced in Google's Generative AI? Any example would be nice. Perhaps Microsoft does that, but I've yet to see a single instance on Google after thousands of information searches
I’ll provide you with some examples just as soon as I’ve closed the 10,000th “Sign in to Google”

Oh, good, you have some examples. I'm anxious to see whether it's Google Generative AI or instead something from Microsoft or "other".  I never seen one from Google yet.
I too am looking forward to these examples. I've used Bard many many times and have never seen a sponsored response. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a sponsored response when using Bing Chat either....

  • Rumor: iPhone 15 USB-C cable limited to USB 2.0 speeds, has no MFi

This sounds very plausibly Apple. I could imagine that Thunderbolt speeds are "available" on the Pro models, but you will need to buy an additional Thunderbotl USB-C cable that supports those speeds to achieve them. It's like wired mode on the $549 Airpods Max which requires an additional $35 cable to use and only Apple sells it. This would, however, be a giant middle finger to EU regulations since the phone's full capabilities couldn't be realized without buying an extra specialized cable, the very thing that the regulations were meant to stop.
If Apple is going to give its customers a data transfer experience akin to a budget Android phone unless they buy additional cables, then the giant middle finger really isn't being pointed at the EU...
