  • Apple advises against MacBook camera covers due to display cracking

Use Oversight from Objective-See and other apps from this well known Mac security researcher. It will display an alert any time the webcam or microphone is activated and give you the option to permanently allow or deny that app’s access to the devices or to allow just once. I always use the later option, that way when I come back I can always see if an app has activated these devices when I was away from the keyboard.
This Notification works even if this is activated while logged in with another account. I switch back to my account and I can see how many times my kids used the webcam and what apps they used it for.

  • Apple, Google comply with Indian government order to ban Chinese apps

Where is the list of these 59 apps? I want to make sure I have them banned on my devices too!  :D

  • Justice Department reportedly launching Apple App Store antitrust probe

As I said in another article comment. The thing that you are getting different is more trust from the end users. Trust that the software has been vetted by a trusted third party to be secure, respect privacy, and consistent and fair in pricing to all users (I want to know I’m getting the same deal that other users are getting).

These fees have been enabling Apple to develop many of the hardware and software enhancements in iOS and new iOS devices. New iOS updates for features and security don’t come free, nor does the cost of inspecting, vetting, making downloads available with near 100% uptime and downloaded from a secure source that can’t be hijacked by a man-in-the-middle. These are the very reasons that I’m on this platform and not android and these are not free.

The developers are buying all this with the App Store fees. I do not have the same faith between apps downloaded from different app stores like Google Play, even by the same developer. They are not the same and if people are naive enough to think that the Google, Twitter and Facebook apps all have the same attention to privacy and security on both Rios and Android, they have more problems than these.

Apple needs to be telling both users and developers this Intrinsic value they are getting through their App Store purchases.

  • Apple's Craig Federighi talks Apple's stance on privacy

This to me is the most important development over all of the other features.

  • App Store policy and developer fee drama won't change Apple's ways at all

No one seems to mention that these fees have been enabling Apple to develop many of the hardware and software enhancements in iOS and new iOS devices. New iOS updates for features and security don’t come free. These are the very reasons that I’m on this platform and not android.
I don’t want developers having access to all aspects of my very personal device. I don’t even trust my family with access to my devices, why should I allow some developer with access to whatever they want to make money from my data. No thank you. We have the Apple review process to thank. I don’t go to other sites to find apps their apps. I don’t want to have direct contact with developers and get on another database that can be hacked for my personal and payment information. If you as a develop want my eyes and access to my funds then you’ll need to play within the rules of the platform of my choosing.

The next question is whether Hey is even a good app. If it’s anything like Basecamp, then no thanks, don’t need that kinda garbage. Their argument of being able to handle trial extensions, refunds, special discounts and customer support tells me that their software isn’t that great. I also want developers to be transparent with their pricing and not giving unfair deals not offered to everyone.

Like Phil said, there are many ways to work within the platform, the platform that many, like me, come to for a secure and privacy focussed device. Even if Hey did get their way, they wouldn’t get me to direct pay. If the way it is today is not okay, then just stay away or find another way.
