  • Arm CEO 'excited' about its future as an independent company

Wow, so they did a full 360 about the IPO? A month ago they said it would be the worst thing to happen because of possible shareholder pressure.
    180. 360 is a full turn. :)

It remains to be seen how the company will be valued. The 66 billion dollars NVIDIA was willing to pay seems a bit excessive for the revenue and profits ARM generates, for the stock value I mean.

How many people will buy this $1000 device for entertainment ?
    I'll buy it for work
Don't say your going to remote in Metaverse. Please don't. The announcement was horrifying, tactfully in Halloween, though.

  • Apple grew Mac shipments & marketshare in strong fourth quarter for PCs

Wonder when this pandemic boost to PC sales is going to end. There's probably a long tail from it all the way through 2022. Wonder if someone tracks sales of computer desks as a sign for when this growth ends.
There are several things at once here: PC sales are through the roof from bored gamers being in lockdown, chip shortages mean some graphics card and custom-built PC buyers are still waiting in line to buy their 2020 computer that has not arrived yet (people are still waiting for RTX 30xx cards made by Nvidia but only available from scalpers), and large-sized non-Enterprise customers are buying a ton of M1 Max laptops from Apple for developers, but the shortage and waiting does make me think M2 Max in 2023 will still sell well to customers who had to wait beyond what they planned.
I'm in the latter category, got a new job. Job provided the equipment that are exclusively for the work, so no real need for an expensive upgrade (the want is still here). I'm looking for M2 Pro/Max. M1 Pro/Max was almost what I wanted, but with these prices and having no absolute need for it -- it goes way down the priority list.

I was just starting to browse the rumour mill when M2 Pro/Max will come out, is that your guess or is there corroboration on the timeline? Was kind of looking to get one for next Fall/Winter. I can wait for 2023, but thanks to COVID it would be no trouble to budget it for this year.

  • Apple shares 'Foundation' recap ahead of season finale

Is it heresy to confess I think what Goyer has done to the story has improved it?
To a series format this is less linear and engaging than strictly following the books would’ve been, I think. The galaxy is made smaller and the fall of empire is portrayed more rather than forgotten like in the books (if I recall correctly).

After the first few episodes I decided to take this as something inspired by the books and enjoy them as is. So far it seems like a space opera rather than a superior intelligence measuring competition between the characters like the books really are. Oh and I like how this feels like a totally different storyline.

Perfect? No, I still have my complaints. Enjoyable? Sure, but not for fundamentalists who feel offended about changes.

  • Apple Silicon MacBook Pro and AirPods event is on October 18

Most interesting event of the whole year! Let's see how much overhyped our expectations are against what Apple has actually cooked for us. I'd hope being blowed away, maybe I should leave all these rumor websites.
