  • Apple sued over false accusations in Apple Store thefts by impostor

If the details of the case are true, what we have here is a case of incompetence compounded by obstinance with a dab of laziness.  Not a good look.

MS was testifying in a lawsuit where Epic was speaking in the absolute and claiming consoles were not sold at a profit. That was Epic's justification for not treating the 30% commission and single stores on consoles as anticompetitive. There weren't any disclaimers about that lack of profit only applying to the first year of availability.
But you are more than smart enough to understand the distinction.  I've read your comments across various threads so I know you understand.  Relying on pedantic exactitude to form the basis of an argument seems a bit unnecessary and hollow.  I feel fairly confident you don't even believe the argument you're putting forth.  I could be wrong, but it seems like an argument for argument sake.  There's no logic to believing the MS exec was claiming lack of profit in perpetuity.  Nothing in business works that way.

Sony specifically says that the Standard Edition PS5 will hit hit "break even" next month and then will generate profits from hardware within a few months. Is it really that likely MS won't be making a profit from base models of the Series X in the near future? That's probably the reason they wouldn't provide any proof of their claims in court.
Is the bolded question in your comment rhetorical? I ask because I answered the question in the very next sentence in the quote you parsed from my comment.  I even expounded on that in a subsequent sentence.  My quote reads:  "What the slide shows is the PS5 is still not profitable.  Just like the MS exec said their consoles aren't profitable.  Sony sells more consoles so reaching profitability before MS shouldn't be surprising.  It's going to take MS longer to get to profitability.  They weren't implying they don't/won't ever gain profitability."  So no, it's not likely.  It's also unlikely that anyone thought the exec was speaking in absolute terms of the lifespan of the Series X.

Question for you.  Do you think it's more likely the exec was reluctant to provide proof of their claim in court because 1. she made up a stat for effect to somehow hurt Apple or 2. she didn't want to provide competitive intelligence to Sony about XBox profitability timelines.
It's fairly obvious Sony reaches console profitability before MS.  Pretty sure she was just going to divulge how much more quickly Sony gets there before they do.

Apple needs to jump on this with an exclusive deal. Android runs games like sh** anyway.
Bud, Sony isn't doing any exclusive deals with Apple or anyone else.  Exclusivity deals would only hinder Sony's efforts.  Sony wants to get their mobile/clould/PC gaming initiatives running to catch up with Microsoft.  They got caught flat-footed with MS's Game Pass.  Xbox Game Pass is currently handing Sony's equivalent Playstation Now service it's ass in a hat.

Fortunately, it's early in the life of Game Pass and Sony has time to catch up... if they execute properly.  Executing properly means getting their IP in front of the most people possible.  To get their IP in front of the most people possible they have to get PS Now in a better state... and quick.

Apple should make an exclusive deal with Sony. Especially since Japan hates knockoff iPhones/knockoff iPads.
Do you have reading comprehension issues? Whatever you are asking for - CloudTalkin explained why it WON'T happen and why it is NOT in the interests of Sony to do that. The likelihood of what you are asking for to happen is very slim.

Yes because CloudTalkin is the CEO of Sony. Dumb ass.

Apple should make an exclusive deal with Sony and their game catalog.
Apple can’t make exclusive deals with a company that isn’t interested in an exclusive deal.
My advice to you is don't continue engaging.  You can't win.  Mark Twain famously said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "... at their level, they'll beat you with experience."

Interesting to note per Sony: they're saying that the standard edition hardware of the PS5 will be profitable within the next few months. Compare that to MS claiming in the Epic case that they didn't make a profit on console hardware.

Ars has a more detailed version of that story with some of the slides from Sony's investor presentation.  https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/05/sony-lists-pc-version-of-uncharted-4-in-investor-report/ ; The slides are quite illuminating.  The info you're referencing is in one of those slides.  What the slide shows is the PS5 is still not profitable.  Just like the MS exec said their consoles aren't profitable.  Sony sells more consoles so reaching profitability before MS shouldn't be surprising.  It's going to take MS longer to get to profitability.  They weren't implying they don't/won't ever gain profitability.

More interesting, on the same slide is the info that their reliance on console revenue is drastically reduced.  Their money is being driven by software, services, and peripherals.  They really really want their services to grow. MS kinda made it pretty clear a reliance on the console isn't really necessary.  But Sony's gotta get waaaaay more subscribers for PS Now or create a Game Pass equivalent.
