  • iOS 14 privacy feature delay will help advertisers cope with revenue hit

For example, without IDFA tracking, businesses dependent on targeted advertising will likely need alternative statistical methods or models to match user profiles with products, services, and ads.

The only thing delayed implementation does is give advertisers more time to perfect their device fingerprinting algorithms.  Lovejoy wrote a depressing opinion piece over at 9to5.

The TLDR version is Facebook's caterwauling might just be theatrics designed to lull the concerned into a false sense of security about iOS 14's app permissions.  Reminds me of the government's "woe is me" tiny violin playing regarding device unlocking.  Me thinks they doth protest too f'n much.

  • Apple considers delay of iOS 14 privacy feature after ad industry backlash

It's all true unfortunately. Apple has released a statement:
"We believe technology should protect users’ fundamental right to privacy, and that means giving users tools to understand which apps and websites may be sharing their data with other companies for advertising or advertising measurement purposes, as well as the tools to revoke permission for this tracking. When enabled, a system prompt will give users the ability to allow or reject that tracking on an app-by-app basis. We want to give developers the time they need to make the necessary changes, and as a result, the requirement to use this tracking permission will go into effect early next year." - Apple

Ironic this gets released on the same day an ad get's released touting their privacy stance.

  • Kuo: Apple to ship far fewer mmWave 5G iPhones than expected in 2020 and 2021

I personally think Sub6 is going to be the driving force for 5G in the US.  mmWave deployment is pretty crappy right now.  Both due to Covid-19 and the carriers' typical half-ass execution.  Line of sight, penetration, and distance issues are going to keep mmWave a novelty on phones imo.  Sub6 is where I think the bulk of the use will be on phones.  I think TMob realized that early on, and bet big on getting as much of that spectrum as they could.  Verizon seems to be a bit panicky about it.  Panicky enough to try to prevent TMob from accessing more of the spectrum.  Source: Fierce Wireless

  • China sees no reason to keep iPhones if WeChat is banned

Maybe China also will have no problem with Apple moving all iPhone production out of China.
The problem with that logic is it would take time -years- for that to happen.  In the interim, a Chinese prohibition on Apple products could be almost instantaneous.  Also, Apple's manufacturing and assembly in the Special Economic Zone could potentially be affected.  That would hurt Apple pretty badly.  Now, I can hear you saying, "yeah but it would hurt the Chinese people too".  My response would be, "Sure.  Sure it would."  But then I'd ask, "When has the Chinese government had a problem doing something detrimental to it's citizenry?  The governmental interest, aka saving face will always take precedent.

If a global 30% reduction in iPhone sales was ever iminent, Apple could easily afford to buy WeChat. It would be a good investment and basically a 'no-brainer'!
    1.  Apple could not easily afford to buy WeChat.  Not sure how you came to that conclusion.  2.  Tencent ain't selling WeChat.  3.  Even if they would sell it (they won't & why would they), WeChat is so ingrained in the Chinese economy and society the government would put the kibosh on that idea pdq.
