  • 'iPhone 12' may not ship with EarPods, power adapter to offset 5G costs

Sweet Jeebus.  It's just a rumor and we already have people making excuses for Apple offering less than they normally do.  If the rumor is true, @entropys is right; it's a nickle-and-dime move from a company that could soon be valued at 3 f'n trillion dollars.  The rumor essentially says: "Because our cost is higher, we will give you less to offset that cost."  Unsaid but implied, and equally important is "giving you less helps us maintain our industry leading margins and profits".

The same people who love to boast about Apple's amazing industry profit share, stock valuation, cash holdings, app store revenue... the financial superlatives just go on and on... are the same one's who are more than willing to be shortchanged by a super-mega corporation that has a figurative license to print money.  Apparently Stockholm is not just a city in Sweden.

  • Apple about to release seven iPads, eight 'Apple Watch Series 6' models

Why is Appleinsider including a picture of the Fitbit Sense on an Apple Watch article?   :D :D

  • Apple is still developing a 'less ambitious' wireless charging mat

Apple can still do place anywhere wireless charging.  I believe they could have done that around the time of the AirPower announcement.  What I think they couldn't -and probably still can't- do reliably is Qi and Apple Watch proprietary charging together on the same surface.  No big loss imo.  I think they should include a puck/stand for the AW along with the place anywhere mat and call it a day.

  • Porsche Taycan first vehicle to fully integrate Apple Music

    Mike
Why is this year old press release suddenly news on some of the tech blogs?  It's a press release from August 20, 2019.  https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019/products/porsche-taycan-apple-music-integrated-music-streaming-experience-entertainment-18405.html The Taycan has been on sale for almost a year now.  MacRumors did the same thing.  Did the 8/20 date cause confusion?

edit: According to MR, Porsche republished the press release with today's date, then subsequently reverted back to the original date.  Porsche be on one. :D

  • Apple ordered to pay PanOptis $506.2M for infringing LTE patents

Apple gets caught again stealing somebody else IP and then cries about it.    Sorry but PanOptis owns those patents for the same reason Apple owns patents, that is to make money.   Frankly this is just another example of why I'm really beginning to believe that Apple needs to go to hell for awhile.   I like a lot of stuff Apple makes but they are digging a big whole due to their lack of ethics.   Frankly they should have left China years ago once it was realized that China has practices as hideous as the Nazi's.  I've lost a lot of faith in Apple of late.
LOL. Written by someone who has absolutely no clue how broken the patent system is. I have a family member who worked in it for years.  The Eastern District of Texas is the most active patent court in the country. These non-practicing entities are not the same as Apple at all.  Yes, both own patents. But Apple uses them to protect the technology that goes into the actual devices and software they sell. These “companies” produce nothing.  Not only do they not produce products, but they don’t even really contribute to the economy. They are leeches.
I agree the patent system needs an overhaul. I don't know your family member so I can't speak to their anecdotal experience.  The Eastern District of Texas is far from the most active patent court in the country.  That dubious distinction belongs to the District of Delaware.  Delaware makes EDoT look like amateur hour.  ED of Texas is actually the 4th most active.  Apple and PanOptis aren't completely different when it comes to patent acquisitions.  Like PanOptis, Apple has acquired patents in a purely offensive play as well.  PanOptis was looking for a payday.  Apple used it's acquired patents as weapons.  Nobody's hands are clean in the patent game.

In this particular instance, I think PanOptis is trying to play the role of shake-down artist.  Maybe the Appeals Court will feel the same.
