  • Apple's attempts to exclude Xbox exec's testimony a 'distraction,' Microsoft says

Microsoft LOST in making knockoff iPhones. Had Microsoft won the iKnockoff market their tune would be different.

What a shi* company after all the respect Apple is giving them on iPhone/iPad. Time for Apple to take office Apps seriously and kill Microsoft.

Microsoft teaming up against Apple playing dirty.
What a small minded way of thinking. They need each other and Microsoft is just as important and powerful as Apple. You take MS apps off of the Apple store, people will get other devices that have MS as their businesses run off of MS.

In fact, if you took Google, Microsoft and some of the other top ranked and used apps off of the Apple store, Apple would tank fast. No matter what YOU think, the world runs off of them and needs them and nothing Apple has can replace that as of now.
MS is butt hurt because they got crucified in the smartphone & tablet market, a market that is 4X the size of Windows. This is just their way of spiting Apple. And if Apple does & is forced to open iOS to 3rd party app stores or side loading apps then that could potential hurt every closed digital app store, Xbox being one of them

Yes I'm sure that's it, for a company with a current market cap of 1.86 trillion dollars. They must really be sour over the tablet market, for which they sell a more capable device. Like it or not, the majority of new M1 iPad Pro reviews have stated it's a lot of power heavily restricted by iOS.
The Surface Pro has had laptop grade hardware for years and runs a full OS, may be Windows but it's certainly my not restricted by its OS in what it can do.
MS did mess up with the mobile phone market though, but as I pointed out it's hardly had an impact on them.

And FYI Xbox isn't closed like you claim, they have integrated the EA store into Game Pass and rumours claim Ubisoft+ is also coming to the service. And that's despite the fact your argument is totally and utterly flawed by the fact you can go and buy a game from a multitude of other places from brick and mortar stores to the supermarkets to Amazon. I don't recall the last time I could get an Apple app from the supermarket..... if Apple lose it won't change anything for Xbox.

  • Zoom seemingly granted access to private iPad camera API

It’s a business. Apple can do as it pleases. This typical of all large companies.
It also says one thing publicly and does another privately. I guess, also typical.

Beta test is nonsense. This is available on the official app. You could use that excuse if labeled it as experimental or limited access to the feature.
Exactly, another example of 'special' treatment Apple has given to certain devs. The feature is not a beta or a pilot as it's been available in the app for a while now, and used by millions. I'm sure the competitors of Zoom would like the same access to the api.

  • Apple files to strike Microsoft testimony over console profit claims

It's a well known fact that consoles are sold at a loss or cost. They make money from the software. The Microsoft executive is speaking the truth, but if they won't provide the documentation to back it up then it's up to the court if they accept a testimony or not. But Apple must accept it will also need to provide documentation for all its witnesses.

  • Only 4% of iOS users in US are opting in to ad tracking, report says

    Gee.

Sounds like the people have spoken.

    LOUDLY.

Thsnk you Apple for returning some semblance of power to the consumer and allowing us to “vote” on such an important matter.

Ridiculous that it’s even legal for companies to spy on us so invasively at all.
Whilst I certainly agree it’s a good feature, I do believe it’s set to not allow ads to track you by default, so most people won’t change it and leave it, probably don’t know what it is even. Hence the high numbers reported. I believe I’m right in saying it’s set to not track by default?

  • Apple has a 'whitelist' of developers who can access unique App Store features

It’s good that they have white list in my opinion because then those who miss behave like the epic they can be on the blacklist if they can come back to iOS again. But since they like to break the rule and then Sue asked for it, I don’t think I would let them back. and the white list is to be there for those who follow the role and play by the role. Reward for good behavior is honorated!
We treat every developer the same. We have open and transparent rules, it's a rigorous process. Because we care so deeply about privacy and security and quality we do look at every app before it goes on. But those rules apply evenly to everyone. - Tim Cook, Jul 29 2020

    So much for that.

As noted. They test features and APIs to determine the effects. Sometimes it works some time it doesn’t. The gifting request by Epic mentioned in this article is a prime example. Apple looked at it, tested it with Epic and saw no ill effects and then made it available for all developers equally. If a developer helps test a feature that does not make it but had invested a good bit of time and resources into it testing it, I’m sure they would leave it active as long as they are not abusing it. I’m sure Apple gets feedback on potential unexpected results to certain access and if they can’t find a solution to mitigate it they wouldn’t open it up further to less trust worthy developers like Epic.

It’s no different than early access given to developers for new hardware or software features added to an upcoming OS. Giving Access to the wrong people ensures leaks and other problems.
Yes, Hulu have been usefully 'beta' testing this API exclusively for 6 years now.. must have provided some great feedback I'm sure. Although it can't be very good as no one else is allowed access to it still, but Hulu still seem able to use it well even to this day...  /S
