  • Apple's Preview app rumored to be coming to iOS 26, iPadOS 26

"Time Machine - not needed outside of macOS so much as they need to introduce a version of iCloud backup for Macs. TM is practically abandonware at this point"

That is absolutely not true. I use TM - most of my user data is not stored in iCloud, only important docs and photos. If I install an update or an app that lead to data corruption, TM will revert back to older state much faster than iCloud can. iCloud does not provide true backup - you still have to install apps and register and so on.  With TM, that is not necessary.

rsync is another command that lets you back up but it cannot be used if the OS is corrupted. You would need to install OS again. rsync is ideal for backing up user data across many platforms over many types of protocols.

I too would like to see TM for iPhone. I like the idea of being able to go back to a previous OS if I don't like an update. I also hate the fact that one can't just re-install iOS on top of (and therefore replacing) the existing installation like one can with MacOS. Doing that often solves a problem without the need of a full erase and re-install. When I do that, I get thousands of historical emails flooding back into the Mail app, some which I want to keep, so they need recording and sorting through. Major PITA.

  • iPhone buyers worldwide may see higher prices because of Trump's tariffs

This is what happens when a baby who spits his dummy out when he doesn't get his own way is elected. That megalomaniac isn't fit to lead a Boy Scout group, let alone the USA. I wonder if Americans are regretting their choice at the polling booths yet?

  • Apple Maps adds Michelin reviews to help you find fine food

You might get the restaurant rating, but Apple Maps will likely get you lost going there.   LOL.  Waze or Google Maps are still better than Apple Maps.
Agreed - more often than not, Apple Maps takes me to the wrong destination. Having said that, I agree with Ywchai, different apps work better than others in different places. I use TomTom as my go-to satnav app. I often check with Google Maps and sometimes it comes up with a shorter/quicker route, sometime not. Always a good idea to have a selection. The thing I like about TomTom, it works even with no signal, it just takes a little while to load and calculate the route. GM just tells me I'm offline and to try again later. 🙄

  • US will not tolerate EU fine against Apple, says White House

I dunno what Trump is on, but it's none of his business. The EU makes its own laws to benefit its citizens, just like the US does. The man's a megalomaniac, who just wants the world to be according to Trump. He needs to get his own house in order before commenting on others.

  • iPhone Fold rumored to cost over $2000

If I were to be tempted by a folding iPhone, it would have to be a flip. I loved my Motorola flip phone in the 90s - a couple of years ago a friend had a Samsung flip which was also nice apart from the very visible crease. But at $2,000+ (probably £2,000+ in the UK)? Not on your nelly 😱 maybe, when/if the price comes down once the R&D costs have been recouped. But that's all moot, seeing as Apple's offering looks like being a fold rather than a flip phone.
