  • Apple's M1 now supported by Linux kernel in version 5.13

MS won’t release Windows-ARM to the general public because it’s not fit for consumption.  Most of MS’s own software won’t run.  Entire libraries have yet to be ported.  Even Microsoft’s “Crown Jewels” ie development tools are only partially supported.  It’s nowhere near a complete OS and they would be completely humiliated if they had to run that on the same environment as MacOS 11.

  • House unveils sweeping antitrust legislation that takes aim at tech giants

Hey if anyone wants to provide a competent, wholistic approach to computing (portable, desktop, handheld and wearable), software (os, programming environment, language, APIs and finished products), and services (iCloud, music streaming, video streaming, curated software store, game arcade) that Apple provides, with top quality components, years and years of support, and a keen eye towards security and privacy, then I will be the first to sign up.

  • Head EU antitrust regulator wants Apple to allow alternate app stores

That's the right thing, users should be able to choose.
I don't think it would harm Apple really hard, but it would bring freedom to the platform.
When Apple allows third party app stores, it could be done with maintaining the iOS security model (only app review is done by another company).
Really?  So Instead of the company I buy the hardware and the OS from being responsible for the security of the ecosystem, I’m supposed to trust a third party middleman to ensure that my downloads not full of trackers, worms and spyware?  No thank you sir.

What I would trust is if Apple were to spin off the App Store and it be a fully self-funded, wholly owned subsidiary with an independent software auditing program and a firewall between itself and the Apple Mothership.  In the end it would still be responsible to Apple, but the firewall and self-funding mandate would preclude all the allegations of favoritism and self-dealing.  That I could see.  Multiple stores just offer the illusion of choice without offering any actual benefits to consumers.

  • Apple has worked on new iMac's speaker designs since 2019

Dad was a physicist who tinkered with speaker design as a hobby.  This sounds like the basic process he used to determine  case size after analyzing woofer characteristics.  Wish I had paid more attention when he was teaching me.
