  • iPhone Air was almost portless, but concerns about EU regulations prevented it

While magsafe charging is great - it is slow. Further I prefer to use iMazing for backup and copying photographs to external drives rather than iCloud. By limiting iPhone port to charge only it might be an effort to ensure most people use iCloud for all storage and backup. I hope that future software will expand AirDrop to allow the iphone to be fully mounted on the Mac as an external device to better navigate the file system as you can with iMazing.

  • Amazon launches Alexa+ as Siri advancements drag on

While on might say "Siri has been slover to evolve" I find it to be in a devolution. On the simplest level it has been stripped of it uniqueness. Remember when you could ask fun questions like "beam me up Siri"or "open the pod bay doors" and you would be one of several wisecracks? Similarly you would ask "what flights are overhead" and you would get a list of planes close to your GPS location. Now it just provides a link to FlightAware and does not even pass on your GPS in query form. Siri seems to have a hard time with managing music or a watchlist - hard to belive sinice it is within its own system.

Apple has a habit of leaving value on the table:
Siri was first practical voice assistant
Newton, while flawed was the first real PDA

The iPhone is still the winner but Apple is too easily distracted (Apple Vision Pro).

All that said, I would never trust Amazon or Google assistants. On the Mac I keep them in separate browsers and kill cookies upon exit.

  • Apple accused of covering up war crimes by willfully using Congo conflict minerals

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been hardly democratic and not much of a republic. It is one warring faction trying to cash in on a legal complaint that is not really against Apple but against other rival groups. While the current government did win a popular election, the conflict goes back to 1960 and the end of Belgium colonial rule.
It is just another example of a government entity looking to increase revenue via a legal system far from their domain. In this case, like Indonesia, the DRC is looking for a source with deep pockets. The real issue are these minerals mined legally/ethically (child or forced labor).

  • Masimo's claims falter as Apple defends smartwatch designs in court

In sum Masimo filed a nearly frivolous lawsuit ending with the company infringing on Apple's patents.
I am surprised that they did not try to brig the suit to the Federal District Court in East Texas - in Marshall, Texas. The patent trolls prefer this court with sympathetic juors.

  • NLRB accuses Apple of illegally restricting workers' social media use

Despite a corporation's interest in putting constraints on private life to ensure positive public messaging, they should have no right to restrict private communication conducted at home. However, within the workplace and using the company's systems, network, etc. they should be able to ensure that any worker is not spending company time on social media. These realms need to remain separate in any free society.

Sadly, some employess feel that they can spend as much time on private social media during work hours that they would like. Similarly, some coporations inflict their presence into personal lives.
