Hack upgrades Mac Studio internal SSD for less than half of Apple's prices
danox said:So cancel your warranty and your resale value on a $4000 Studio Mac Ultra to get a few extra terabytes from a company that may or may not be around to stand by their work, there is a very good reason why Apple computers have a higher resale value (genuine parts) used and one of those reasons is that you don’t have to worry about various chop shops working on the computer. -
Power press: Fixes for Apple's oddly-placed Mac mini button
kiltedgreen said:I have an iMac. The power button is big and on the back, easily reachable with my left hand. The only time I have used it in the last few years is after we’ve had a power cut to start the iMac! As there’s a restart after power failure option (I think) I could even avoid that incredibly onerous task if I wanted, but as our power cuts tend to come in bursts I prefer to leave that feature off.
This entire utter non-issue boggles my mind that people can get so worked up by something utterly irrelevant. Good on Apple, for making a surprising but very sensible design choice. -
Apple execs address Mac mini's hidden power button in 2024 redesign

They are trying to put a shine on a turd. This was a stupid design choice that goes against best practices and will waste electricity. So much for Apple trying to act like they keep the environment in focus.access the button by tucking a finger underneath to press it as long as you’re a six year old child. Otherwise you have to pick the unit up. -
