  • California Attorney General threatens lawsuit over potential 25% iPhone tariff

Little Bonta isn’t going to do anything. The president has the authority to impose tarriffs and exercise trade policy. Tarriffs ate a trade tool. And he’s using them to get things fairer for America.

Cook has Trumps number. Just needs to call and provide some assurances.

Bonta needs to watch Bambi vs Godzilla.
It isn't "Bambi vs Godzilla" it's "Bambi Meets Godzilla".

I am waiting for the announcement that Melania will be joining Apple’s Board of Directors.

  • Apple tests EU by adding scare screens to apps using third-party payments [u]

I find it curious that something that tells you a fact that is absolutely true is referred to as a "scare screen."

Also why would this be a scare screen for people who are intentionally looking for apps that don't use Apple's eco-structure?

Amd finally, does anyone know whether the EU has something like the 5th and 14th amendments to the US Constitution that explicitly prevent the government and the courts from forcing someone to provide things to others without compensation?  --- Oh, wait, I guess that doesn't matter, we don't follow those rules in the US anymore so why should the EU?
An employee at Apple used the word “scary” in their internal communications about it so the court referred to them as “scare screens”

    From the court transcript:
“In Slack communications dated November 16, 2021, the Apple employees crafting the warning screen for Project Michigan discussed how best to frame its language.  (CX-206.)  Mr. Onak suggested the warning screen should include the language: “By continuing on the web, you will leave the app and be taken to an external website” because “‘external website’ sounds scary, so execs will love it.”  (Id. at .2.) “

  • DOJ seeks to break up Google ad business after illegal monopoly ruling

It's not so hard to understand when one finds out that the government buys that data from companies to make an end run around Constitutional restrictions on acquiring that data themselves, which requires judges and warrants.
Do you have any evidence for that? I’ve never heard of anything of the sort, except that probably the Chinese state’s has user data from domestic companies, and maybe Russia too. The point is that Google, Facebook have more data on us than KGB or the East German Stasi had on their citizens, and it’s not a problem. I just don’t get it.
I’m not familiar with the buying private data part but in the first half of the 90s I worked for the FDIC which is one of the agencies in the US that regulates both national and state banks. The FDIC had a right to go into any bank it insured at anytime and access records as part of its “Safety and Soundness” mission. No judges or warrants necessary. Now the FDIC is not part of the executive branch so it couldn’t prosecute anyone. It is a separate corporation owned by the federal government. However the FDIC had a policy of automatically making referrals to the FBI if they found something suspicious. I remember once during a training class I attended in DC an FBI agent came in and thanked us for helping them get around the constitutional requirement for a warrant. The rest of the class seemed to appreciate this but it bothered me.

  • How and where Trump's new tariffs affect Apple

I don’t know if the timing is coincidental or not and how much is just related to general downturn in business but the company I work for today laid off a bunch of people and put everyone else on 32 hour weeks for the next few weeks.
