  • New Vietnam trade deal means Apple will pay at least five times more in tariffs

0 percent for US companies into Vietnam is incredible

The fact Vietnam is wiling to agree to this show the ominous power of America
It shows that the demand for US imports is so negligible that it doesn't matter.

  • Apple rumored to be in talks with Anthropic and OpenAI about powering new Siri

Crazy that the stock is up on this news, because it officially confirms that Apple ideas way behind.

Is it (as the article says) true, that ChatGPT or Anthropic will run on device, so that they don’t get API data from Apple?

Otherwise, it is no good news for Apple for long term.
First point: no, this confirms nothing about Apple being "way behind"

Second: ChatGPT already runs via Siri without getting data from Apple or the user. Private Cloud Compute is server side, but independently verified to not be storing user data.

Third: How is giving users access to more private and secure models using Apple technology a bad thing for Apple?
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence company. If they want to figure out the identity of a user without an email address or IP address I'm willing to bet they can.
Well, the biggest problem with this statement is that they've got a deal saying that they won't access or use any data submitted by users via Apple. Second, I really don't understand what your statement is trying to convey... that OpenAI has some kind of magical superpowers thanks to its AI? That's not really what AI is or does.
All the way back in the mid90s they were able to write code that used stylometric analysis to identify the anonymous author of the book Primary Colors. That was with the technology of 30 years ago.

Apple Silicon M5 coming out in the fall or Siri being 20% smarter which would you choose and which one do you think the public would care more about right now? AI which is currently half hype, half fad and is unprofitable currently for everyone other than Nvidia, or Apple Silicon and the five operating/ecosystems being better than they were last year without AI is probably more important long-term than Siri being like Robbie the robot in Forbidden Planet.

Apples path is going to be longer because they are carrying the load of software and hardware in house that’s just the way it is and there is no shortcut.

The general public doesn't care about either.

Nothing magical about it. Also you aren’t given a guarantee of privacy. Apple doesn’t purchase a surety bond on their customer’s behalf that indemnifies them if their privacy is breached.

A better partner for Apple would be xAi with Grok. They currently appear to be iterating faster than the rest and also have a lower user base than the rest which may mean that they are more open for the massive distribution that Apple could offer.
Yeah, no. I don't see Apple working with X on anything here. It reluctantly brought back advertising to avoid additional pressure and lawsuits from the current administration. I understand there are fans of xAi that seem to ignore its psychopath leader, but I doubt Apple could trust it with anything.

Would xAi really agree to something that required it to respect user privacy and not absorb data from queries? They'd likely just break whatever promise they make and take in user data on purpose, and when they're caught, call it a "bug." It's Musk's entire playbook.

If people want to hang out at the Nazi bar and use the Nazi-endorsed AI platform, by all means, but let's be realistic here. Apple isn't touching that politically charged garbage with a ten foot pole. I mean, how can anyone take it seriously when Musk says Grok is broken when it tells the truth, asserting he's going to have it fixed so it doesn't tell the truth again later?

Just disgusting incompetence Apple needs to avoid.
Musk really screwed himself when he helped Trump get back into office.

Wall Street seems to be happy with the rumors.
