  • Apple's Mac had a tough first quarter of 2023, in a bad overall PC market

I can vouch for the longer replacement cycle. My computing needs are modest, and I just (reluctantly) replaced a late 2009 iMac with a M1 mac mini. I also replaced a 2012 MBA with an M1 MBA. 10 years between replacements? Why yes, thank you.
Indeed. I finally decided the original drive in my 2010 Mac mini was probably living on borrowed time and replaced it with an SSD. Quieter and faster now, almost like getting a new machine. (Obviously, I do not do video work.)

Sadly can't claim my SSD- and G4-updated Lombard PowerBook as a regular tool. Pretty slow these days, but it certainly works ... at more than 20 years old.

  • Inside Apple Upper East Side: An Apple Store mixed with classic architecture

I'm very pleased that Apple has chosen in several instances to house stores in historic buildings and to restore so many little details in them. Far superior to saying, "This is our retail design; every store must look identical."
The biggest attraction to the lower level would be the bank vault that Apple decided to keep when renovating the space....
Had to laugh at this. Apple didn't decide to keep the vault. Large bank vaults are built as integral parts of their structures. They're functionally impossible to remove without demolishing the building.

  • Mac is less popular among Apple customers than iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch

Many of us grew up using Windows so switching to MACs is not easy. One simple observation is If there is a simple way to have Windows type File Explorer UI on MacOS then easier to migrate from Windows to MacOS.
I'm curious what you find MacOS Finder doesn't do that File Explorer does. The Finder's default view looks different, but it's fairly easily customized to look and act pretty much like File Explorer. At my job (Fortune 500 company, so slow to adopt new tech), IT is moving network storage to Microsoft's SharePoint Online. Mostly, I say "whatever," but SPO does not play well with File Explorer, and I get the impression that Microsoft wants to move toward phasing it out as a primary navigation tool.

    Does anyone still use FireFox?
    Yes. at least on desktop.

  • Travelers use AirTag to track lost luggage all the way to the donation pile

"Furthermore, the bag's luggage tag had disconnected, preventing identification of the owners."

This seems like the type of information that belongs right at the top of the article. Air Travel 101 includes a chapter on putting your contact info in multiple places in your luggage.
So, now you have a choice: put your personal information in the bag, and let thieves know your phone number and where you live, or don't and risk losing it to "charity."
What sort of dystopian hellscape do you live in that you’re too afraid to put your name and phone number on and in your luggage so that you can get it back if it’s misdirected in transit?
That "dystopian hellscape" is commonly known as the "real world."
I'd agree, except that, in the dystopian hellscape we call reality, your name, address and phone number are readily available from other sources. Thieves are unlikely to use a written tag to start identity fraud or other nefarious schemes.
