  • Apple and Meta iOS 18 AI chatbot integration discussions ended long ago

To avoid shareholder suits, Apple had to do its due diligence and at least sound out Meta.  However, no two outfits have privacy policies that are as diametrically opposed as Apple and Meta (except maybe the NSA and ACLU, but those aren't businesses).

Apple could have ended the conversation with Meta in 30 seconds but they had to keep it going two more minutes (by rephrasing the same question 4 different ways) so no one could accuse them of not giving the matter serious consideration.

  • FTC targets Adobe for deceiving consumers about early termination fees

Adobe doesn't seem to care at all about reputational damage from its two-bit sales practices.  No different than a small-time swindler.  Or that baby formula company in China that put melamine -which is toxic- in its product.

  • Apple Pay Later is getting killed in favor of third-party loan integration

It was an awful idea in the first place for Apple to get into the usury business.  The optics alone of being a financial predator would be bad.

Jon Stewart, aka Jonathan Stuart Leibowtiz. has had his day. Time for him to hang it up.
That sounds like regurgitated coprolite to me.
It doesn't sound like regurgitated coprolite to me.  It sounds more like something that would come out of regurgitated coprolite.

  • What happened to Safari Web Eraser -- the controversy, and what it looked like

I think companies delude themselves on the effectiveness of their advertising. Too much of it is non focused, even on sites that use algorithms and track users data. It's gotten so bad that 99% of it is completely irrelevant to me. The most ignorant thing about online ads is hitting people with ads for a product AFTER they have looked something up. Too late, they have already made a decision. It is things like this as to why I do use ad blockers on some sites.
If online ads weren't effective, they would have disappeared by now.  The hit rate is probably very low, lower than 1%, but it's still cost effective for the advertiser.

Getting an ad for a product after you look it up is probably even more effective because you have just signaled some interest in the product and I'd bet that additional advertising nudge gets a quite a few people to go ahead and purchase it.  Again, the practice wouldn't continue if it wasn't successful.
