  • Facebook attacks Apple over iOS 14 ad privacy program in full-page newspaper ads

Facebook is just like Trump - stands up for no one but themselves and tells bald faced lies trying to convince you they will protect you.

    Jail for Zuckerberg.
So apparently Trump now rates the esteemed "Politician" label...  As all (or very nearly all) politicians tell bald faced lies trying to convince you of __________ (fill in the blank).  With the media it is not (generally) bold lies, but lies of omission trying to convince you of __________ (fill in the blank).
    False equivalency.  Standard propaganda technique.

  • Coinbase CEO says App Store policies stifle innovation in cryptocurrency

'"Forcing users to use the App Store instead of Dapps (websites), or IAP instead of crypto payments, reminds me of what Microsoft did back in the day (forcing users to use IE if you were on Windows) which led to all their antitrust issues," Armstrongs says. '

No Mr. Armstrong.  Windows had a monopoly (okay an overwhelmingly dominant market position) in desk/laptop OSes.  iPhone doesn't even have a majority of the smartphone market.  Your analogy doesn't apply.  Complaining that Apple is a monopoly because it is the sole seller of Apple iPhones is like accusing Audi of monopolizing the market for Audi cars.  It's stupid talk.

Besides, why would Apple, or any other private company, want to promote a currency and technology that enables drug dealers, cyber criminals, tax evaders, terrorist organizations and all other sorts of nefarious characters?  Why should any private company that is not a monopoly or a public utility be compelled to enter into a line of business that it does not want to be in?  Why is it a private company's obligation to promote a technology that it doesn't want to be involved in?

Frankly, cryptocurrencies have not proved their value to society.  Even on a conceptual basis no one has made a credible case yet on how you can stop criminals from using it to conduct illegal transactions.

  • Apple releases iOS and iPadOS 13.6.1, macOS 10.15.6 with bug fixes

Is Catalina the biggest pile of turds Apple has ever shipped as an OS.  Although I’ve skipped a few versions of MacOS over the years, typically the final version of each of them is palatable.  It seems this update is pretty darn important for Catalina users but does it finally overcome the caveats I’ve heard over all theses months about “issues” with Catalina.  Am I foolish to hope Big Sur will not suffer the same issues?
Switched from Windows to Mac at OS-X Jaguar.  Pretty much at every upgrade people will complain that the new version of OS-X is worse than the previous one.  On hindsight, they're all basically the same in terms of "issues" at introduction.

I've learned to live with it.  The only way an OS reaches and maintains perfection is if hardware development stops cold on its tracks.  I don't want that.

  • Justice Department reportedly launching Apple App Store antitrust probe

Unbelievable.  First time ever, as far as I can recall, that a company that is not a monopolist, or even a dominant firm, will be investigated for antitrust violations.

  • Profile of Apple procurement exec details iron fist supplier negotiations

"they were separated into conference rooms and plied with common negotiation tactics like bluffed numbers"

Competitive negotiating is one thing, yet is fraudulent misrepresentation an entirely different matter? And so many on this forum preach to 'trust' iCloud with their data - hmmm...

You can say pretty much anything in a negotiation as long as you don't sign a contract afterwards asserting as true something that is not.   A negotiation is not a deposition under oath.  If the other party falls for your fib, then their fault for not doing their homework and going in ill-informed.
