  • Apple to build AI servers in Houston, invest $500B in U.S. economy

Keeping servers in the states makes a lot of sense. They wouldn’t have them in China. They would never have them in Russia. And housing them anywhere in the EU means that they’d have to be subject to their laws. If the servers are in the United States, they can shut off any access to them based on laws and regions. I’m a little worried about the Houston installation because Texas’s grid is so unpredictable / unreliable.

  • There's not a big rush to buy the iPhone 16e yet

This thing is simultaneously too much and too little.
42% price increase is too much for the entry level phone.
Including a processor for AI means they’ll start charging for a certain level or usage of their AI.
Already Invites requires the paid tier of iCloud.
Add magsafe, ditch the trick camera, lower the storage tiers.
Keep the price. You’re making plenty of money on $1k+ phones.

  • iPhone 16e vs iPhone SE 3: A quantum leap forward

Sorry, but a 42% increase in price for what's supposed to be their basic model phone isn't helping anyone.
The camera trick is just weird. You can "zoom in" on any image by cropping and filling the screen, they're just doing it in camera.
Just make this the phone without AI and keep a better entry price point.
People who want to buy a $1,599 thing they'll crush or drop can still do so.

  • Apple is buying a treasure in Pixelmator, and we hope it won't get destroyed

I tend to think they distilled Dark Sky into their Weather app, made it dead simple to quickly get the info needed. Only real competitor for UX was/is Yahoo weather. Wunderground swallowed WSI and dropped several of their best features.

  • Developers can nag lapsed app subscribers with win-back offers

Apps should follow the same rules as texting / calling.
If I say “stop contacting me” to subscribe or to go “pro”, then that’s it.
Nagging me every third screen makes your app a hair’s-breadth from unusable.
