Eve Systems' Tim Both on the future of HomeKit and Thread
Good interview, I’ll be buying plenty of Thread enabled devices in the near future, having waited for secure plug and play solutions that actually work seamlessly and don’t waste energy unnecessarily, for way too long. Eve seems to be on the right path.
I wish that this interview touched on WiFi 6E and how that might help with camera bandwidth, since it was mentioned that Thread is great for everything except high bandwidth devices such as cameras.
Should one wait for WiFi 6E enabled cameras??? -

2014 to 2023: Apple Car has been in the works for almost a decade
Nice recap! Apple reached out to me in 2015 regarding a top secret project. I knew it had to be some car related project based on the swirling rumors and my EV / EE / startup background. I was flattered they called but I could tell from the questions they were fairly green at the time. Fortunately I wanted to remain in Southern California and glad that I did since they allegedly ended up drastically revamping and cutting the program.
I have no doubt that whatever Apple is up to, and wherever they point their rifle, they will ultimately succeed. I think the early phase was a wake up call for how difficult this venture will be, hence the revamp, but they will succeed. They have the wherewithal to do things right, and not hurry. It’s still the first inning in the EV and autonomous race. Most Americans are not ready for a pure EV, for various reasons, but within a few years that will start to change beyond the early adopters. -
Apple pauses 'Apple Car' talks with Hyundai, report says

That being said, I’m hardly the darling choice of any auto manufacturer, as my daily is a 2006, and it was a 2004 until my family was literally given a hand me down 2011. I look for a car that is still viable after two decades, preferably three.Obviously I agree:I retired my previous car on the advice of my mechanic at a quarter million miles and 24 years old. My current ride will be 22 years old (and going strong) in April.Essentially, after the first 10 years or so, the largest cost of the car (depreciation) is essentially nil as it's already been depreciated. Plus I save a bunch on insurance.Meanwhile, the car not only does what I need it to, it has every meaningful bell and whistle I would get in a brand new car..... So, why would I spend $25K - $65k on a new car? Impress the neighbors? (Nope! I'll keep the cash!)Which brings up one of my major concerns about EVs: I have heard too often that the battery will last "the life of the car" -- which makes me concerned about the life of the car! -
