    Exactly right, and probably more like 95% of consumers want/expect plug-and-play it-just-works compatibility and ease of use.  If Matter delivers on its promise then 2023 could finally be the time to jump in and not need to succumb to Google/Nest and Amazon/Ring/Echo/Eero etc spyware.

Their “authentication system” is a DISASTER and 1000% hackable.  Anybody but this company.  Seriously. Remember people - these “gateways” are the way into your homes.  So choose your gateway wisely. 
    This is precisely why so many folks wish Apple hadn’t abandoned routers.  As much as I love Apple’s products and attempts at safeguarding privacy, they’ve really dropped the ball and due to this weak link security is compromised overall for all Apple customers at home.  Maybe with the Matter rollout this fall Apple will surprise and delight us with a home hub / WiFi router.  One can dream.
