  • Apple Silicon M1 Mac mini review - speed today and a promise of more later

The size of the SSD is a big deal for me.  256GB runs out of space very easily.  512GB is the min for me nowadays.

  • iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro review: Massive upgrade in every regard

If you have repeatabily cracked the back screen by having the phone in your back pocket then perhaps change your behavior.  My suggestion would be to use a case.  The other consideration is if your jeans are on the tight side then don't use the back pocket. The stress on the phone body could create enough flex to crack the glass.
I generally put the phone in my front pocket, primarily because my wallet is generally in the back and also I have been concerned that bending over or sitting could damage the main screen.  I have had an iPhone since the 3GS days and haven't cracked a screen yet.  Never used a screen protector but generally do have a case.  Scratches do occur for sure and generally because I have put coins or keys in the same pocket as the phone.  I try to avoid that but sometimes it does happen.

  • Alexa hack granted attackers access to an Echo user's smart home network

Thats why I will never had one of these things in my house.  They will have to get a lot more useful and secure before that happens (and it will have to be an Apple device.

  • Every new HomeKit feature in iOS 14, tvOS 14, & macOS Big Sur

Good that HomeKit was added to Macs.
Now they need to enable Macs to become hubs.   Homekit is very sparse in hubs -- pretty much just repurposing other equipment.  An always on unit like an iMac or MacMini would be ideal, but MacBooks would make for a secondary choice since they can travel away from home and/or their batteries can die (the same limitations an iPad Hub has).
Actually an old Mac laptop would be the best unit for a hub.  I use an older MBP for my media server.  The good thing is if there is a power outage then the unit does not crash.  Of course, the wifi will go out unless it is also on battery backup.  We get outages quite often and protecting the equipment via a battery charger provides some level of protection.

  • Here's why you're only getting 1% cash back with the Apple Card

You also get 3% cash back if you are in Apple’s iPhone upgrade program and use your Apple Card for your monthly installment payment.

You have to manually update the payment method, though, as the ‘Make Default at Apple’ feature doesn’t reach Citizen One’s system.

That's great news.  I just switched my card over to ApplePay for the monthly citizen bank loan payment.
I'm going to be using the AppleCard for payments that will pay 2 or 3%.  Anything that earns 1% will go on our joint Costco card.  We get 2% for activities like restaurants.
