Fact is most people who buy AppleTV's already own an iOS device. And its only a matter of time before Apple allows Blutooth keyboards just like the ATV3, but at this point that isn't a priority because very few people use physical keyboards with their Apple TV. Mostly just nerd types.

I am type much faster on the PS4 than I can on an Apple TV, that is using the DS controller.  I said they can also use a keyboard, not that must use one.

Wait, one second it is keyboards suck, next minute, Apple will sell you a BT keyboard, so yet again I have to get something else to use the new Apple TV, so it won't be long before this $299 device is costing me $1000

Regardless not matter how well designed a remote is you will never be able to type well with it without a keyboard. Its flatout impossible.  That's why we have the remote App, or even better use a device with a remote App connected to a blutooth keyboard.

I have an AppleTV, I don't have iPod, iPhone, or iPad.  The AppleTV is the slowest to type on, there is significant improvements Apple could implement.
