  • Canva's Affinity deal will shake the Adobe status quo

Hopefully, this merger will allow Affinity to move into a area it has thus far neglected—book publishing. I've used InDesign for close to twenty years, but I can see that subscription model is too costly for independent authors and small publishers. There's a large market there if Affinity would pursue it by adding more long document features and ebook export.

  • Apple responds to DOJ antitrust lawsuit by refuting every claim

After years of promising a lawsuit, the US Department of Justice has finally brought an antitrust suit against Apple.

That hints at what's going on here. With the election coming up in November, Biden's DOJ is showboating. "See," it is saying, "we're trying to do something about those big tech monopolies." Given how long these disputes last, this lawsuit is unlikely to be decided—perhaps in Apple's favor—before the election.

  • Apple's big WWDC 2024 announcement may be an AI App Store

Do we get to choose the IQ of this AI, paying more for 140 IQ than a 100 one?

  • Apple pursuing idea of an all-screen iPhone with a wrap around display

A future iPhone could feature a curved surface that wraps around to give a screen on both sides.

I fail to see much value in that. What would make sense would be device that's a larger second screen slaved to an iPhone with the touch functions. It could be folding or no, epaper or not. The iPhone could stay in a pocket while the second screen allowed a large screen for reading, browsing online or whatever.

  • Apple will crush the DoJ in court if Garland sticks with outdated arguments

Excellent points. Most of the DOJ's arguments are dated and make little sense. The only really solid case the DOJ could make are the (sometimes) 30% charges Apple makes for its 'monopoly' app store and no-alternative in-app charges made for services such as streaming music.
But we shouldn't forget that this is 2014 with major elections coming up in November. Quite a few less tech-savvy voters will see this as the current administration looking out for consumers. Given the slow pace of legal disputes, if Biden & Co. had really wanted to go after Apple, it would have filed this lawsuit at least a year ago. Now is just political show-boating.
