  • Apple's next NeXT: how buying Beats launched a sneak attack on the future of sound

Nice to see some decent comment in AI.

    1. Beats was good business, but absolutely poor quality headphones. They wanted Bass, they said multiple times the reason why Music doesn't sound good was a lack of Bass.

    2. Apple actually improved Beats audio quality. Not the other way round.

    3. Dolby Digital and Atmos. Seriously, What has that got to do with Beats? Hint: Absolutely Nothing.

    4. Beats is actually a very good marketing company.

    5. Margins in the Headphone industry are very high, it means Apple are earning much more on the Back to School Promotion.

    6. And Most importance of all, Iovine has ALL the connection to make Apple Music.

  • Video: With Apple's HomePod delayed until 2018, will customers wait?

The choice for me is between this HomePod and Devialet for (undistorted sound) digital speaker system that can do AirPlay, and considers that Devialet is like 3 times more expensive I'm gladly wait.
I really love the Devialet but can't justify the expense. I also love the new Master & Dynamic concrete speaker.

My problem with both: No AirPlay 2 support. Devialet has AirPlay 1, and will hopefully be updated with AirPlay 2. M&D is just Bluetooth and Chromecast. No thanks.

I'm a longtime AirPlay user, and I'm praying that Apple updates the AirPort Express to support AirPlay 2, either with a firmware update, or (less likely) a new 802.11ac model. I also have a relatively recent Denon receiver with AirPlay support that I hope will get the AirPlay 2 update. We've contacted numerous manufacturers about AirPlay 2 support, and their response has been, at best, a collective shrug — it would seem Apple has kept manufacturers in the dark about firmware support, and so they are genuinely unsure whether their devices will be able to support the new standard. That's a shame, and might be one of the reasons the HomePod was delayed.
Would love to see an Firmware update, next Airport Express should just jump straight to 802.11ax if it ever gets updated.

If Apple isn't making a TV Set, please just let other TV manufacture license AirPlay2 so i can stream it without an Apple TV.

  • 2018 iPhone models to boast enhanced LTE transmission, support 4x4 MIMO

Gigabit LTE and all of the talk over how the iPhone X/8 doesn’t support it is bizarre. The current bandwidth needs of the vast majority of mobile users are completely satisfied even with a solid 10Mbps connection (which is enough for HD video), even for the foreseeable future. While gigabit LTE may enable faster data from weaker connections vs. the iPhone, is it really worth complaining about? It feels like a complaint about the iPhone just for the sake of it.
Because it is a lot more than that. It leads to higher capacity of Network, Network provider upgrades and better latency. It is not that iPhone doesn't need Gigabit LTE, but Apple likely are working with every Major carrier around the world and know their equipment upgrade cycle. And when Apple pushes Gigabit LTE next year, most carrier are likely ready for it.

But I do understand the concern, that is why I kind of think 5G will be like 3G, there are little incentive for users past a certain level. Massive MIMO, More Spectrum and Refarming, LAA would means current LTE networks getting at least 3 - 5x capacity increase.

  • Apple, Intel engineers reportedly tightly engaged to produce 5G modem for future iPhone

    A Few Points

    1. There isn't some magic advantage of bundling Baseband Modem within SoC.
    2. Intel isn't king in Low Power Node / Density / Performance, at least not yet.
    3. Apple's isn't desperate for Intel's modem.
    4. Intel 's Fab offer no flexibility.
    5. Business is long term, I really like the post about business is business and TSMC partnership is a piece of crap.

Would love to see an Apple logo on that chip instead.

What next Apple as a carrier?
    Mobile
    (I wish!)
I wished the same for a long time. A Mobile Carrier that:

Acts as 24 Months Financial Payments to iPhone.
    Visual VoiceMail Included.
iCloud Storage of your iPhone Capacity included. ( Free Backup )
    Carrier Grade Spam Call Blocking.
Free Data usage for Apple Music, Maps, iCloud,
Auto iCloud Backup at night via 4G / 5G.
    AppleCare+

It will basically be what I called Apple as a Services, much like the current iPhone upgrade program, a single monthly payments that comprise of everything from iPhone, Mobile Carrier, iCloud, AppleCare+, with options for Apple Music and Apple TV / Steaming in the future.

    A Global MVNO.

Although it is hard to think any current Carrier are willing to give out these amount of control to Apple.
