  • Rumor: Apple's 'iPhone 8' might not feature full-screen OLED sans home button, to launch l...

Just What if, All we get is a normal, Clockwork iPhone 7s ? Faster SoC, better Baseband, much improved energy efficiency and larger battery?

Along with a new Red Colour that should sell out fast in China.

Bearing in mind, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with releasing just an iPhone 7s this year.

  • Editorial: The future of Apple's Macintosh

I honestly dont believe Apple has abandoned AirPort. It is just a finished product, with regular security update coming from NetBSD if needed.
Apple Display is another Story though. Because there is no "software" involved in the display, there is literally no added value from Apple apart from Apple's QA. Although i did argue even only for Apple's QA they should have had their own Apple Display as well.

I believe there is still more life in the Mac. I am not sure about Mac Pro but definitely iMac and Macbook. If you care about build quality and quality Display then there is yet a competitor on the Market for All in One Desktop like the Retina iMac. And AMD Ryzen is a chance where Apple could offer some competitive advantage, with its Software Integration they could get a Ryzen Optimized build of OSX. Heck I even think the Mac Mini is waiting for AMD's APU.

There is literally zero point to continue using Intel on the desktop side of things. Apple will likely offer 512GB SSD as basic config with the cost saving coming from Ryzen.

I dont quite understand the Mac Pro market. You cant upgrade your CPU even if it was in its Old Form Factor. The Chipset and the socket wouldn't have supported it.  There are no *substantial* GPU upgrade available unless you could use Nvidia Graphics chip. Apple is simply waiting for a big enough leap to release a new model. Likely 2x Compute Power and 2x GPU Power, 2x SSD, 2x Maximum Memory. If Thunderbolt 3 wasn't a problem i would have bet the AMD Naples CPU ends up in Mac Pro, 32 Core CPU, 8x Memory Channel. New Vega GPU as well. Apart from some minority in CG Graphics, there is very little need outside this circle. ( Science community are all on Linux and requires the use of Super Computer anyway )

I think we just have to wait and see, i believe WWDC this year will get some Mac hardware love.

  • Questionable rumor claims Apple will ditch Lightning for USB-C on OLED 'iPhone 8'

    1. USB-C is a Thicker Port.
    2. I hugely dislike USB-C design, where the connector / tongue could be bent and damaged when it is within the devices. For Lightning, the tongue is actually with the cable, breaking it means cable swap only.
    3. Why release Magic Mouse with Lightning when USB-C is coming to iPhone?

  • How to: change the email address linked to your Apple ID account

WOW, Let me try this. I never knew we could change email address, When i tried signing up for iCloud, GOOGLE was deliberately delaying or block iCloud's activation email. I choose my Outlook / Hotmail account instead and it was there instantaneously. So i have been stuck with an Email i dont really use.

  • As legal spat with Apple continues, Qualcomm teases ultra-fast 1.2Gbps LTE mobile chips

First, a lot of people dont realize Apple is the 2nd largest Mobile Phone maker on the planet, despite their "niche". And by now, they may be the single largest buyer of Mobile Modem technology. Samsung is using more and more of their own SoC ( Exynos) with their own Modem technology Integrated.

So not only is Apple the largest buyer in modem tech, their are also the highest end in Market Selling Price, so they have lots of purchasing power.

The last thing Intel want is profit from their Modem business from Apple. After they wrote off billions in their Mobile SoC Atom, Intel has literally nothing in the Mobile Game and shareholders are not very pleased. Compared to Qualcomm getting a $20 per chip after rebate. Intel could afford to sell it at $10. And not to mention Empty Fab space is extremely expensive, Intel recently announce their Mobile / DC first for every new node. Leaving 14nm for desktop CPU only, they will need to fill those 14nm fab space with something. And Modem, or precisely 200M+ baseband modem sounds like a good fit.

Apple tries to force its suppliers to reduce prices, which is fine, but what is not fine is it charges so much for it stuff to us. Hypocrisy. Can dish it out, but can't be on recieving end of its own tactics. Good for QCOM

What a lot of people dont realize, is the BOM cost continue to rise, DRAM, NAND, SoC Manufacturing cost etc. It is the reason why you dont see super cheap Smartphone from China anymore, the floor for Smartphone price has risen, they are still very cheap compared to Apple. But much less $69- $99 Smartphone on the market.
Apple has manage to offset a lot of these cost by bringing technology in house, prepaid contract etc. But there is only so much you can do, especially when patents are now one of the largest cost of Smartphone.

So for Apple to maintain its margin as it has over the years, it have to find cost cutting somewhere.
