Rumor: Apple buying screens for 13" MacBook, could signal end of MacBook Air
It is much better then the first version simply because the first version is crap, and that by no means make the 2nd generation butterfly keyboard great. We still need improvements.
13" Screen. or may be they are brining Retina to Macbook Air? The cost difference is absolutely minimal from BOM perspective.
Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have next size of Macbook in 13", far too close to 12". It would have to be 14" at least.

Apple joins Alliance for Open Media, signaling support for AV1 video
One way to look at it, Apple has all the patent issues sorted out with all HEVC parties through Cross Licensing. So even if AV1 did had anything that is patented Apple is highly likely to not be sued.
AV1 is not VP10, it is more like VP10 plus Daala and some from Xiph all merged. And over the past 12 months they had some tremendous progress that is closer to their initial goal. i.e AV1 when it was first came out was no where near 40-50% better then HEVC, and then later revised to 30% better then HEVC ( Which still wasn't true then).
It is now better then HEVC, and not in just some silly PSNR numbers. The major problem right now is encoding complexity is many times higher then HEVC, and its bitstream is still not frozen yet. Good thing they are taking the time to get it right though, without Open Media Alliance there is 99.999% chance Google will just throw out an incomplete AV1 version.
There is another point worth mentioning, IETF ( Internet Engineering Task Force ) has ongoing project called NetVC, which is a royalty free video codec for the Internet, just like opus for audio. Unless HEVC parties decides HEVC can be free to use on the Internet, there isn't currently any other contender for NetVC.

Apple Music chief Jimmy Iovine expected to leave company in August
If you look around you, ask your friends and everyone else, who "discover" music on Apple Music or heck any other streaming services.
And guess what Apple just bought that really discover music? Shazam.
Read and Listen to everything Iovine has said publicly, if he said what he meant was Music, then I guarantee that his way of "Music" doesn't work. And it kind of shows because he hasn't been saying "The Next Song" for a long time.
Apple has always been about user experience, Apple gave Iovine the money, market share, and time to show his way of discovering Music is great and works. But Market doesn't buy it. Shazam won, by a wide margin.
I dont know why everyone is pointing the finger at Eddy. Even If Planet of Apps was his fault ( there are now writings that it was actually Iovine's role ), then I think the 4K Movie Apple TV pricing and free upgrade got him covered. Eddy still has great strength at negotiation.

AT&T announces plans to launch mobile 5G service in 12 cities by end of 2018
macseeker said:Now we can burn through our data plans in a few minutes time. NEAT! Still will have the same low amount data plans. 5G really not worth it.
Assuming consumers continue to renew their phone every 30 months or so, which is big part of how Network can improve efficiency since your phone has to support it. We are looking at 4 - 5X capacity improvement with the current infrastructure.
That is excluding any Frequency Band refarming and new Band added to LTE.
