  • WiGig gets official certification, promises speeds up to 8Gbps

It's always going to be the ISP being the weakest link. If they offer it, the prices will be too high for the average consumer. Can't really utilize Gigabit WiFi speeds with a slow ISP speeds unless one wants to use it for file transfers inside ones home. My little thought.
If they also upgrade the pokey USB 2.0 ports on the Extreme and Time Capsule to allow you to connect a RAID box or external SSD, the extra wireless speed would indeed come in handy. Of course, that might compete with sales of iCloud storage space if they make in-home centralized storage too convenient.  :)

The Express also needs a little love...it's still stuck on 802.11n.

... rumors have also claimed that USB-C will be used for charging, replacing MagSafe. ...
Improvements in battery life make it less likely that anyone will need to charge their MB during waking hours.

Agree with everything you say, but my primary benefit from MagSafe has been during sleeping hours...darn dogs! Guess I'll have to be more careful where I leave my laptop to charge overnight. LOL
Add a Roomba into the mix and you've got yourself a lot of damaged cords.
Good to know. Where were thinking of getting a Roomba on account of all the dog hair.  :)

The more important question: what's up with that smoky, deep pink, partially obscured Apple?
It's Halloween! Fog and smoke! And Pink because October is month of Breast Cancer awareness. Just my thoughts.
The accompanying images are always directly or indirectly related to announcements. This one's tricky because of smoke but I'm guessing iCloud related product. And by "hello again", it says to me that it's a new hardware product, not just another new laptop or desktop. The only thing that comes to mind is Apple's Echo/Siri/Home device because it relies on the cloud and is a new category of product for Apple.
This makes a lot of sense. The primary product featured will be a Siri based-device along the lines of Amazon's Echo. MBP updates will be a secondary announcement. If the rumors hold true for the MBP updates, I never really thought there was enough there for justify a media event. A new product category would be that justification.

The show will open with the Siri device introducing itself, just like the original Mac did.

"hello" used for intro of Macintosh. And iMac. Hmmm....
That's a pretty significant and monumental implication ... in that context it's either going to be that impressive, or very disappointing.
My thoughts, too. Referring back to previous usage of "hello" (which was the first thing I thought of when I saw the invite) implies pretty significant changes to the product line. A pretty tall order for Apple to live up to give the lack of any rumors along those lines.
