Hurry, there are currently 23,000 signatures. 100,000 are needed by March 18 to require a Whitehouse response.
The title of the petition is:Halt efforts that compel Apple and other device makers to create a "backdoor" for the Government to access citizens data

Government says Apple arguments in encryption case a 'diversion,' presents point-by-point rebuttal
JeffA2 said:As for valid warrant -- how else would you have a civil society decide the rights and limits of search by the state? Are you seriously suggesting that we do away with warrants and judicial review? Replaced by what? This is the best system we (and British Common Law) have.
Get a valid warrant to unburn a document, see how far that gets you - even if you get the paper company on board.

California Assembly considers bill to mandate encryption backdoors
razormaid said:There's a quick way to stop this bill... Apple should announce the iPhone will not be sold in California Apple stores and available ONLY by the Internet. The phones will be sold from Arizona only! That should piss off enough people to start protests from the public. Have giant banners made and slap them on those pretty glass doors at each store nice and big:
STARTTING JAN 2017 IPHONES WILL NOT BE SOLD IN CALIFORNIA - CONTACT YOUR ASSEMBY PERSON NOW!
Common sense is loosing to stupid in this case. So hit California where they can truly appreciate it ... In their wallet!

Early reviews peg Samsung's Galaxy S7 as a serious contender for best smartphone

Nope. Just proving my point that mostly the uneducated buy 'high end' Samsung phones.
Its almost like someone paying $70k to buy a Hyundai instead of a BMW or Merc. Yes there are $70k Hyundai's for sale.
However buying a vehicle that you can only drive the speed limit (or get a ticket), has awful technology implementations, and overall is only meant to get you from point a to b, I just don't see why someone would spend thousands of dollars more for basically the same thing, only prettier.
The most likely reason I can think of is people want to show off they have money, which I guess it's fine, but the for a rich person to make an investment decision that has such awful ROI, it's pretty comical.
There are others that see the journey as the fun part.
I have a Porsche Cayenne Turbo. 500 HP, 500 foot pounds of torque. I don't need it just to get me somewhere, I need it to be enjoyable.
It's not about showing off. Maybe you are impressed with how much a car costs, but not everyone is like that.
Some people are fine with any phone. It just needs to do what I want. Some want the experience of an iPhone.
