Apple disallows developers from collecting and sharing Contacts data
I'd really like to see Apple give Contacts some dev time.
I'd like an easy API that allows you to scan in a business card, automagically recognize the contact details (data detectors already does this) and add or update the contact card, pulling in social media feeds. Bonus points if your scanner can batch-process cards after a sales trip/event.
I'd also like the image of the business card to be displayed, as it can jog your memory.
Third, I'd like an easy way to separate personal and business contacts. -
Spectre-style Intel chip vulnerability disclosures delayed, patches not expected until Aug...
So these are eight newly discovered flaws, which means we won't see hardware fixes for another year or two at least.
The article doesn't say whether these flaws also exist in Apple's A-series chips. (Spectre and Meltdown affected the A-chips as well.)
I was looking forward to this year's "A-12" chips being the first to have hardware fixes against Spectre and Meltdown.
Depending on whether these new flaws impact the A-series, Apple may not have those bragging rights after all. -

FCC votes to undo net neutrality protections despite public protests
Back in the ole days on page 4, I posted about how this is actually a forward-looking decision by the FCC, given that 5G internet is poised to bring competition to the home ISP space across the U.S., and there's no reason for the government to micro-manage the Net given this fact.
But some people can't simply debate facts, and would prefer to pretend to be fighting a "vast right-wing conspiracy" instead.
I suppose it's still beneficial, if only to show the newer owners why Political Outsider was a necessary sub-forum on this board. -

Forbes says they're planning deployments now, and the cable guys will be at a disadvantage, since the phone guys can bundle both home and mobile over the one network infrastructure. 5G apparently widens the mobile pipes so much they can offer the 1TB caps home users are accustomed to now.
And eventually do it over most of the continent.
