  • Apple Store Infinite Loop is closing for good January 20

Sad as I have many great memories of attending the Annual Shareholders meetings and then going to this store (which was really intended primarily for employees only).    I will also miss that "T-shirt design war" between the two campuses.    Each campus store got to design and sell its own T-shirts and the ones from One Infinite Loop were always my favs - I still have a black pirate version.    Thanks to everyone who worked at this store - it was always a treat to visit....

  • Epic sci-fi saga 'Foundation' will return to Apple TV+ for a third season

One of my fav AppleTV+ shows!

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max lands with 5x optical zoom, faster USB-C

I wasn't expecting too much in advance of the launch, but there were three key things that have swayed me to upgrade (from a 13P):

    1)  USB transfer speeds of up to 10Gb/s
    2)  Ray tracing (thanks to 3nm chip)
    3)  WiFi 6e (with thread support)

In addition two other factors influenced me:

    A)  Excellent trade in reductions (for models going back to iPhone 11)
    B)  Vision Pro video support

Not sure I will jump on day one upgrade - I might just wait until first quarter for a big splurge (replace 2018 iMac with Studio and new monitor, Vision Pro, and iPhone 15P, and assuming rumored specs on iPad Pro 12" are true probably upgrade 2018 model as well).   2024 is going to be a big Apple year for me...

  • Apple's forgotten Trailers app is on its way out

I use it often, but only on my AppleTV's.    It used to show theaters and movie times, but over the past few months that has been erratic, so I usually then have to go to Fandango.

I love movies.  Trailers allows me to review most (if not all) of the smaller indy films that come out.   I am amazed that there are  way more than one new movie per day released in the US (something like nearly 500 per year).

  • Apple Vision Pro still has a way to go

For myself the price is not an issue (I purchased my first Apple II in 1978 and paid $1200 (a months salary, pre-tax for me at the time),. That did not include the cassette recorder (there were no disk drives then) and TV needed for display.  It remains one of the best investments in my life.

I expect to use the VP as a desktop display for a new Studio Pro I will be purchasing at the same time in 2024

My use cases will be video, photo editing and 3-D graphics for geologic modeling (a specialized field but this would be ideal for both oil and gas as well as hard rock exploration, as well as the primary display for the Studio Pro.

By 2026+ I expect to be using a future VP iteration as my primary entertainment (TV replacement) and computer display for all of my devices.

A lot of ink will be spilled over the price.  But like all computers these are tools for living and working more efficiently.   VP will replace thousands of dollars of display technology (multiple high res computer displays and several high end TV's).  In addition, it will allow me to be more productive (ie. higher work product in a shorter period of time) and thus be the superior tech for my workflow.
