  • Record Bird keeps you up to date on artist new releases by scanning your Apple Music library

That has been puzzling me for quite some time. The most obvious useful function not available in the iTS: Get alerts for new releases from artists you have purchased stuff from, new episodes/seasons of TV shows previously bought... All the things one might actually want do not exist. Instead of this Apple sends me weekly emails recommending albums, movies, even books which are absolutely outside of my interests (which they should know, since they have all that data.)

It is not a biggie, but with the often anemic performance of the iTS (and the still terrible search functionality), I would really like that and buy more if I knew about things in the first place.

  • Apple limits 2016 MacBook Pro models to 16GB of RAM to maximize battery life

I find this a strange comment, and I really do not believe that line of reasoning. My virtualization machine (a Dell XPS 15 with 32 GB of RAM and UHD display and the same CPU as the entry-level Touch Bar model) runs 6-7 hours when virtualizing a complete MS System Center environment (a total of 13 VMs) with a 84 Wh battery. Maybe using more recent RAM modules (the XPS uses DDR4) would have helped? Just to be clear: the Dell is a true piece of shit, keyboard and trackpad are abysmal, the quality is not remotely on the same planet as Apple's, the display calibration ex factory was unusable (DeltaE was north of 6!) and despite weekly driver and Windows 10 updates galore that thing acts up on just every occasion... and let's not even talk about Windows 10, the OS-equivalent of cancer. I want to smash this thing against the wall almost every time I use it, but 32 GB of RAM and battery life are clearly not a problem. But since they got so cheap that they now even charge you extra for the power extension cord that used to be in every PB/MBP box since forever, spending a few cents more for DDR 4 was obviously not in the cards. I did order the new MBP because I like an awful lot about it, but Apple is not earning any sympathy points here.

  • Apple's Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter connects legacy accessories to new MacBook Pro USB-C

I am glad they are offering this adapter since I have numerous TB and TB2 peripherals. But somehow this whole TB3 story just screams for a dock / breakout-box that covers many/all things instead of single adapters for each and every purpose... I need an external monitor, Ethernet, HDMI, TB/TB2 devices, USB 3.0 devices, and SD and CF card readers pretty much daily. With all these dongles (cost ignored) this beautiful machine will look like the flying spaghetti monster.

  • Apple announces thinner MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Touch ID, USB-C ports starting at $179...

Could not resist. 15" model arriving on 11/22. Will finally replace my still gorgeous 2012 Retina. The combination of Touch Bar, huge Trackpad and non-wobbly keys is irresistible. Most expensive Apple-year in a long time... Only minor downside is the absence of a nice external display for now. These LG things might be alright (I don't know), they sure look tacky.

  • Samsung sets up Note 7 exchange booths at airports around the world

The even bigger problem now (for them and their customers) is that crews can't really tell the devices apart. Multiple reports from people who had their non-Note Galaxys or non-7 Notes taken away. The official(?) captain's announcement on Lufthansa does not refer to the Note 7 in particular, but to Samung Galaxy mobiles in general...

This is the biggest fuck-up in the history of the modern smartphone; still, the coverage is clearly below "Antennagate" levels. At least we do know now what it takes to get Samsung to provide any personal customer service at all. (My sister's Edge - dead on arrival - is shipping back and forth since release day, now has been returned two times as "repaired" without even turning on. Just don't buy anything from these clowns.)
