  • Zombie BlackBerry phones will finally die off in early 2022

Wait, how is this even possible? Good ole’ 2G phones from back then still work fine in Europe.
Europe is mostly is set on a 2025 shut off for 2G & 3G

Here in the US it is happening more quickly & in a stepped approach (2G mostly deactivated already, 3G going offline in 2022)
Some of it is due to radio spectrum management - we have a lot of "wants", but broadcast spectrum is a finite resource.

Planned obsolescence, forced upgrade paths, etc, etc.
    It all applies.

I think, similar to the OTA television upgrade to ATSC, there should be free/low cost hardware to accommodate the shutdown for people who cannot afford it themselves or are disinclined to pay. 235,000 people in the US applied for & got the "coupons" for a digital/analog converter box so they wouldn't be forced to buy a new television.

  • iPhone 14 will get 48MP camera sensor, folding lens arriving with iPhone 15

Bring it on as long as it doesn't make the camera bump any bigger.  I find it odd that even with the Apple cover the bump still protrudes out so the phone never lies absolutely flat.  It's the first iPhone to do that (with the case on) and it seems very un-Apple to me.
Not laying 100% flat doesn't matter. That's an idealistic stance rather than pragmatic one. In my pocket, it doesn't matter. In my hands, it doesn't matter. Looking at my photos of loved ones, it doesn't matter. Use cases for operating the phone as it lays on a table with no hands are not very common in my life. I just tried it and it rocks slightly but not enough to care.

The pragmatic stance is that a set of lenses protruding from the main body of the device = greater chance of damage to said lenses.

  • A prominent orange dot in macOS Monterey is causing problems for artists

If the orange dot truly shows through even when applications are in full scree mode, it is yet another example of poor QA on software releases for Apple.

Exactly.  I'm sure there are plenty of apps which aren't using this screen capture API which people want to present fullscreen without having the dot.

Can anyone test Keynote & see how it behaves in presentation mode?
    Final Cut?
    Quicktime?

Just wonder whether Apple is "using the right API" in their own apps...
Good call.  It was definitely there when I played a movie fullscreen using QuickTime.  Just tried presenting using Keynote and sure enough, there it is.  I thought it might go away if I was presenting on a secondary display, so I hooked a monitor up to my laptop and presented on it: the dot is still there.

So yeah, even Apple isn't using it.

Thanks for the leg work, auxio.

So, to paraphrase Kuest four comments up...   <3  Apple is developing apps wrong for Apple's OS <3

Lectures, presentations, projection installations, medical records, medical imaging.
I don't want to have an element i cannot control.

To go there, it is that type of attention to detail that epitomized Steve Jobs & he pushed his teams to adhere to that level too.
