iOS 12 users must unlock their iPhones every hour to maintain USB connections
OutdoorAppDeveloper said:Will this affect things like lightning audio adapters? Imagine you are on a long drive and listening to an audiobook via a lightning adapter. Will you have to unlock your iPhone once an hour to keep listening? Will Apple be liable if this causes you to crash? Why wouldn't you simply pull onto the side of the road? That is the beauty of driving, there are parts of the road created specifically to enable non-driving tasks, so as not to endanger moving traffic & other drivers! -
App Limits in iOS 12 lets users manage device time & parents set allowances
steven n. said:nht said:Screen Time will be a great help for parents in managing usage. Judgmental jerks with no kids of their own or raised teens before 2010 need not comment on how modern parents don't need more effective tools because you have no clue.
If this works well then it is the best new feature in iOS 12 for many many families.
Fortunately, I'm the primary account so my wife can't use it on me.It will completely depend on implementation. The possibility is there, but only if Apple builds it out enough. My most effective tool as a parent is simply taking the device away, same as it was for my parents with television or the Commodore64/128.How many pundits clamored for GE to "do something about" television addiction? Or Bell to limit my sister's telephone addiction? (50 foot phone cords draped up the stairs were almost as dangerous as texting & walking) I just don't understand the blame-someone-else mentality so many of all ages have in today's culture. -

Apple's iOS 11.4 update with 'USB Restricted Mode' may defeat tools like GrayKey
airnerd said:Can they go a step further and have a toggle that prevents any data connection via USB? I'm not a power user, but I can't remember the last time I connected my phone to anything to transfer data. Everything is cloud based (backup, sync, etc), AirDrop, or just email/imessaged as far as I know.
Then again I have nothing of interest to law enforcement.
Just remember the words of the theologian Martin Niemöller after his release from Dachau... paraphrased...
They put them in camps, but Communists, who cares about them? They opposed religion.
Incurables? Perhaps they do cost society too much.
Trade Unions.
Social Democrats.
Jews.
The Church does not concern itself with politics.
A bit overstated, airnerd, but I think we all need occasional reminders of the slippery slope that can happen with federal forces on denizens.

First look: Lumos smart bike helmet with Apple Watch gesture integration and HealthKit sup...
As a 10 year+ daily bike commuter in a major US city...My Giro helmet, 750 lumen headlight & tail light cost $75 less.
I wish safety were as simple as having indicators.
Honestly, the best investment i made was in a $20 air horn (refillable with my bike pump) 115 dB and it has the tone of a big truck.
It has been the only thing, apart from a u-lock swinging from my bar end, that has kept drivers at bay.
20+ years of bicycle and motorcycle riding has taught me that bright lights all day & night are important, but being heard is more important once the car is cutting into your lane.
Every time i have been hit (walking pedestrian, bicycle & motorcycle) the driver's excuse is "i didn't see you."
