Apple refuses to back GOP convention because of Trump politics
jungmark said:I don't think Apple should pick sides no matter how disastrous a Trump presidency would be.
In as much as this is now the legal stance in the US, i believe what Apple is doing is precisely what they are doing. Socially conservative corporations started the sea change, now socially liberal ones should flex their personhood. -
Apple's Trent Reznor says YouTube built on stolen content, pushes Apple Music
YouTube as akin to a metal scrap yard.
The majority of their business is legit & necessary.
But when the homeless guy comes with a shopping cart full of stolen aluminum, they buy it without a second thought, for pennies on the going rate. Then sell it off at their normal market rate.
The problem?
The penalties for a scrap yard buying stolen aluminum/cooper/etc are prohibitively high, so as to deter the purchase.
Youtube has obviously decided their current way of dealing with stolen (infringing) work is the more profitable way, as the penalties are insignificant.

Square pushes Apple Pay contactless reader with new $1/week installment plan
coolfactor said:Headline says $1 per month.
Article say $1 per week.
And yes, $49 is not a split-minute decision. All of these costs add up, particularly for small businesses and sole proprietors. I currently pay $300-$400 per month just to keep my small business "in business". Adding $50 here and there is not something I'm willing to do without careful consideration.
and, as usual, AppleInsider simply quotes itself in the article, rather than having actual useful links to the product.

$1 a week
To the idea of $49 being "inexpensive":
in the US, fraud liability is on the retailer if they do not use EMV chip. so that $49 also removes that liability.

People who have the money (and even some that don't) will pay it just to be the "kool" kid on the street as they drive off to the coffee shop in their Tesla.
I pass dozens of "million dollar homes" on my way to work, and i know many have Schlage locks, even directly from Home Depot or Lowes.
Frankly, many homes in that price range in the north east US megalopolis are rather cookie-cutter & use nothing but standard equipment.
High end locks do make me laugh a bit though - if you want to get in a place, the type of lock on the door is relatively meaningless.
