  • Apple's iPhone repair tool kit that it rents is wheeled and weighs 79 pounds

You want professional tools? Prepare to lug them around. That’s the way it works.

but a hammer drill that will make an 8 mm hole through three courses of brick is useless for undoing pentalobe screws!

And, honestly, when it comes to construction equipment, professional =  bigger = better cooling, so you can run it 8 hours straight w/o burning out.

Professional doesn't have to mean outlandishly big & powerful, it is simply about having the correct tools for the job.

While I was an owner, and employer, in businesses, I would prefer Apple take some of those tens of billions they’re throwing away in stock buybacks, and give their employees better compensation in various ways. I don’t like the way things have been going. It used to be one of the best places to work, but it’s quickly becoming repressive. There’s no need for that, Apple can afford to do anything required to meet employee expectations.
Stock buybacks are a throw away? Do you have a Retirement account? Mutual funds?

Only about 30% of eligible private sector US workers have a retirement account.

So most likely (70% chance) melgross does not have a retirement account or mutual funds & the corporate faffing about in the equities markets to make the rich richer does not affect them.

Livable wages & dilution of the concentrated wealth in the top 1% of society would make a huge difference.
The US has greater wealth disparity than we did in the roaring '20s, just before the Great Depression.

In which country do they cost $39 each, Canada? In the US they're $29 each or $99 for a 4-pack.
Article clearly states the individual lives in Dublin, Ireland.  So unless it's a misprint, he probably purchased them there for that price.

Then shouldn't they quote it in the country's currency?

  • Workers at NYC Grand Central Apple Store start moving to unionize

What's the answer to the growing wealth inequality in the US?

If the rich won't share via wages & benefits and will do all possible to avoid paying their share of taxes, the concept of working your way up is a bill of goods & the "American Dream" is a fallacy,

I trust a well formed union to keep a collective's best interest in sight more than a C-suite making tens of millions a year with an eye on nothing more than their stock price.

    And it is still stupid.

Apple should have added AMD models, not used souped-up phone chips in computers.

Apple's history of frustration with chip suppliers says otherwise.

i am more than happy that Apple has been able to build a successful internal team to create what they want. No more disappointments because their patterns did not want to/could not provide them with what Apple wanted.
