  • Johny Srouji says the Apple Silicon strategy challenged Apple

Out of all the desktop/laptop OEMs out there Apple was the only one with the balls to strike out on its own. As the article points, with tremendous risk and challenges. The rest remain locked down to whatever Intel or AMD does or does not have to offer. But since the debut of the M1 suddenly other OEMs are investigating producing their own SOCs.

One thing is certain for those of us who keep riding the Apple log flume, it’s a thrilling ride and you never know what’s around the corner, just like an Indiana Jones movie.
I think having your own operating system is a part of this equation.

Apple languished for decades under the "control" of Motorola, IBM, Intel & others.
Jobs coming back with NeXT & helping push the end of the "Classic" Macintosh operating system is not to be underestimated.
In the same way having a decade or so to see the 68k to PowerPC switch as well as the PowerPC to Intel switch means that Apple as a company had a handle on the intricacies of large platform switches & maintaining support for older software along the way.

Per Magic Mouse, the lightning charging port is in the same location as the catch that provided access to the removable batteries in the other model. Makes sense from a design and manufacturing standpoint. Keeping it there would mean minimal internal layout changes. Also, it only takes 2-3 minutes to provide 8 hours of charge when new.
Which doesn't make it any less ridiculous from an end-user perspective.

Keyboard - port is right there on the back center, easy to charge & use.
Mouse - you have to stop working to charge it.

Home use, not a big deal, maybe.
    At the office?
We keep a wired mouse to pass around for people whose mouse battery dies during the day.  :(
They can’t keep a spare battery in their desk lap drawer? Sure sounds like an office full of dumb asses to me.
With the old Apple mouse (which we have in circulation) we do exactly this.
We still use our AA rechargeables & have a few 16 battery chargers.

The new Magic Mouse has a built-in non-user serviceable battery.
A battery in your drawer is useless.

The dumbass is the one trying to take apart a Magic Mouse to change the battery  :s

  • Peloton cuts hardware prices & hikes subscription fees amid calls for sale to Apple

Are those yearly or monthly subscription prices?!
    Monthly.

The sales pitch is comparing the monthly cost to the monthly membership fee of your gym, personal trainer, etc.

The rub is that for far less equipment cost & no monthly fee you can ride a bike to work everyday :)

Still use Airport Express' for Airplay - not even Sonos has been able to make whole house audio as easy or inexpensive.

And the last version of the Airport Extremes are still the absolutely best network Time Machine devices i have found.
We have 3 wired up on our corporate LAN & they easily handle 50+ devices (each TimeMachine has a 30+ TB USB RAID array plugged into it, specifically for Time Machine)
