  • Apple's MR headset to use magnetically-attached tethered battery

I'm curious why Apple didn't, well, is rumored not to have, put the computing chip bits in with the battery pack too. If would have made the goggles lighter, slimmer, thermally cooler. The only reason I can think of is that it's pretty difficult to push >5K 120 Hz through a wire, and this would have 2.

It may have to have a fan to cool all the chips and to cool your face.

Probably, because the "glasses" themselves have a small 5 minute battery, for swapping...  which someday could be a 20-30 minute battery for light use, which would be my 100% assumption!

  • New Mac Studio rumor rides again thanks to Find My file leak

    Obviously M2 models for…
    - 24” iMac
    - Mac Studio “Max”
    - Mac Studio “Ultra”

Any M3 based systems won’t appear until Fall/Winter
M3, more like till 2024, along with a cheaper, less power consumption, non-developer Apple (AR/VR) Glasses/Goggles;  Where as the developer unit in 2023 WWDC will most likely use the M2 with the battery pack.  And the "Consumer" M3 AR/VR will have the option to disconnect the battery pack.
So yeah I don't see M3 till Feb 2024 at the earliest...

  • Apple launches Apple Music Classical app

I’ve been wishing for a while that they would restore the optical output that used to be included with Apple TV, which would also make it a lot easier to connect your Apple TV to an external DAC or other stereo components that don’t have HDMI. Almost no DACs take HDMI input, and if you invest big money on one of the few that does, it will start to be obsolete as soon as they update the HDMI spec, whereas optical digital signals don’t run that risk in the same way. If you want to use a high-end DAC from 10+ years ago with HDMI, it won’t pass through a 4K signal or HDR. I know you can solve this problem with a splitter or extractor, but it’s still inelegant and there aren’t a lot of great options there either.

The fact that Apple is doubling down on hi-res audio does seem like generally a good indicator that they care about this stuff, and maybe they will also find a way to extend AirPlay to support higher bit rates, especially if people have to run the app on their iPhones.
My 4K Atmos Recvr has HDMI 2.1 and can do 4K 120 Atmos, and also plays 96KHz and 192KHz. The AppleTV just doesn't have this ON!!!! erg... (But Spatial/Atmos audio plays...)

  • Hidden AirTags crucial in Singapore recycling failure investigation

Thing is back in the day we would goto the computer recycler and check for "Beige Macs," that was the best, once or twice a year there would be a "find" back when it was fun to fix 'um up,   Now it's too much work and pray they don't have to get setup again... cause floppies get old, the drives themselves, but if you ever want to you can use flash drives in old beige macs with scsi adapter cards, that can take "camera" flash cards...  those old beige 266-333MHz babies are fun to mess around with 8.1-9.2.2 (8.6 is the best!)

    Laters...

  • Apple making the case that Apple Silicon Mac & iPhone are great gaming machines

Getting the big names in gaming to support Apple Silicon is going to time and a whole lot of money. About the only way they will convince gamers themselves is to come up with a Mac that will wipe the floor with their custom setups. Can that ever happen? Maybe, IF Apple decides it’s worth it and is willing to apply the resources.

    My opinion? They aren’t willing.
Come on, Two options?  AppleTV ($149) or M2 MacMini ($599)

That's pretty compelling especially by the time a PS6 or XboxZ /s comes out, and they can't delivery enough units, and Apple could blow them away?  Looks tasty to me...
