  • Google pokes fun at Apple's Jony Ive design videos in new headphone jack ad

How can people say “get over the headphone jack debate, it’s old tech” when Apple can’t even manage to get lossless audio to it’s highest end flagship headphones?

The highest end headphones plug into the highest end DAC/headphone amps by, *drumroll* a headphone jack.

So at least until the point when Apple manages to deliver lossless audio to its own headphones, this debate is fully justified, because as of now, you need an airplay2 target that supports lossless audio, and a DAC/headphone amp, and third party headphones, if you want to fully enjoy your music on headphones: a rather roundabout way, as compared to having a headphone jack in the device.
(Yeah, well, maybe a USB DAC plus camera adapter might work, too… not any more elegant, though)

  • Apple App Store loopholes endanger children, claims watchdog

Exactly how is any of that Apple’s problem? It’s a matter of bad parenting. There are plenty of ways parents can prevent that, including restricting access to internet or the damn phone.

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro expected to have same performance

I doubt Apple ever wanted the different sizes to have different performance, as for that differentiation they have MacBook Air, MacBook, and MacBook Pro.

Much more likely, it simply was a matter of the max. heat various sizes could dissipate, thus limiting their respective potentials.

With the power efficiency of Apple Silicon, that’s no longer a factor, hence no more performance difference.

  • M1X Mac mini with more ports could launch within months

Man, Mac Mini used to go years between refreshes … suddenly, it’s getting upgraded every 10 months!
    Not getting updated, but complemented.
I doubt the M1 versions will go away just because the M1X versions get introduced, unless Apple will transition to a much more aggressive upgrade cycle across its entire product line, or a repositioning of the MacMini line.

  • Russia demands Apple remove opposition leader's 'Navalny' app from App Store

So, how long until Russia demands Russia-specific CSAM hash databases under their control, and direct notification of a special branch of it security services in the case of matching images?

    3-2-…

And what are the chances these databases will then be augmented with pictures of Nawalny, Putin caricatures, etc.?

But yeah, the CSAM scanning is OK, because the most egregious erosion of privacy can be justified first with terrorism, and if that won’t work, with “children”.

We’re half a step away from Clinton’s proposed Clipper chip, in case anyone still remembers…
