Apple issues watchOS 8.1 update for Apple Watch
And once more:
Good news is actionable news.
For news about new software releases to be actionable, BUILD NUMBERS are ESSENTIAL.
If I have e.g. a RC candidate installed, I can’t tell if the RC and the final release are identical without knowing the BUILD NUMBER.
So please, how many years do I have to ask for it, report the build numbers when reporting new OS software releases! -

No, Apple is not making better products because Jony Ive left
Designers allow ports, HW engineers decide on the circuits.
HDMI is for presentations, not for screen which Apple wants TB4 to be used.
SD slots are for the occasional data transfer, since pros tend to use wireless data transfer where possible in their standard photo workflow, as constant card swapping leads to avoidable wear and tear. So the speed offered is adequate for the task.
Specifically, engineers likely didn’t want to limit bandwidth on other ports by reserving high-speed transfer bandwidth for these two ports… -
Apple developer guideline update slightly loosens anti-steering provision
Great! Both parts! There have been more and more apps that requested e-mail or phone numbers before providing functionality, with such lame excuses such as “to improve reliability”, “to recover your account should you forget your password”, “to ensure your privacy”, when in fact it’s simply a tool to track and spam users.
So disallowing apps that require such information to be handed out before they work, is key. -
New Facebook whistleblower claims company allows hate, illegal activity
What is “hate speech”? Given what gets censored at FB, I read such reports with suspicion that some left-wing snowflake wasn’t happy that they couldn’t silence every opinion they didn’t like.
Example: I commented on a decision by the German parliament with the expletive “F*ing Germans!”, which was flagged as “hate speech” and my account suspended for 48h. Really? They have utterly no context and seem to filter posts with a very crude “AI” or keyword based algorithm.
Trying to get the block lifted or the infringement expunged (since it leads to progressively longer suspensions for repeat offenses) is nearly impossible, you can submit your objection, but without any explanation text.
Another time I was arguing a hypothetical point, and it too was flagged, even though out of context it should have been clear that it was pretty much the opposite of the point I was making.
So, yeah, profit over filtering hate speech is a VERY GOOD thing, at least until they don’t have actual people with real common sense reviewing what gets filtered.
