Apple confirms new MacBook Pro models have only slower UHS-II SD card slots
Let’s face it: it’s a convenience port; you wouldn’t want to risk an expensive motherboard repair by using this port all the time hard; same thing killing an expensive camera with constant card swaps.
Most modern high-end cameras offer WiFi image transfer anyway…
…and sneaker net is USB sticks these days.So UHS-III is overkill, UHS-II sufficient, and better than crippling some other port because bandwidth needs to be reserved for it to be used at full speed. -
MagSafe on the new MacBook Pro: Everything you need to know
Given that there are USB-C cables with magnetic tips, this whole thing wasn’t necessary.
We could have one more USB/TB4 port, a UBC-C charging cable with a magnetic tip, and have the best of all solutions, with charging on either side, MagSafe like safety, and industry standard connection.
So, frankly not particularly thrilled.
I’d be more thrilled with USB/TB4 ports that allow the connector to be screwed down. One can barely breathe without disks unmounting unsafely, etc. even with quality TB3 cables like the ones sold for good money by OWC.
USB-C is the least professional connector, despite its throughput, etc. It’s simply utterly unreliable. -

New MacBook Pro with M1 Max processor will ditch Touch Bar, adopt MagSafe
“I find your lack of Touch Bar disturbing…“
The only thing that was ever bad about it, was the first iteration without a dedicated ESC-key; the second version fixed that, and from then on, the Touch Bar was a clear winner.
The only other issue, which with Apple Silicon isn’t an issue anyway anymore, is that the Touch Bar wasn’t initialized during EFI booting, thus, if one did a Boot Camp boot into windows, and one needed to hit F1 to do a recovery boot before windows was fully up and the Touch Bar was configured by drivers, one was SOL, unless one had an external USB keyboard handy. But that’s really an edge case, and any crap keyboard for $10 would fix this, if really it ever was an issue. Apple Silicon won’t support Boot Camp anyway, so now even this issue is gone.
In short, Apple is rumored to abandon a great feature at the very moment when actually all issues with it would finally have been resolved. How dumb is that? 🤦🏻♂️ -
MagSafe Duo Charger doesn't support Apple Watch Series 7 fast charging
Big deal; I have the duo, it charges fine, it won’t stop charging fine. Just because there’s a new gadget that can charge a bit faster, not a big deal, charging speeds are already fine, and the duo is perfect for travel: less outlets and cables required, easy to pack…
The bigger issue is, that on occasion the iPhone indicates it’s charging, and then you wake up in the morning, and the battery is (nearly) drained despite the phone supposedly charging. Fixing that is more relevant than “fast charging”
