  • Satellite SOS is a game changer, says LA Search and Rescue

That's your takeaway and contribution. Hm.

I'm happy to hear LASD has accepted this feature as a viable aid to rescue and lifesaving. To be saved from a life threatening situation must be an overwhelm sense of relief. To be in the position to provide that aid when it's needed most is rewarding. To be too late can be devastating friends, family, and responders alike.

Apple really nailed the two-way text feature though they probably had input from responders. Talking to someone on the phone often finds an excited victim who has trouble concentrating on answering the important questions ask. Having to answer those question in text much reduce the distraction considerably. It's good to hear some real world feedback on this instead of web doom and gloom. Nice article, AI!

  • Apple wants to add a flashlight to future Apple Watches

I carry a small, but not that small, flashlight every day. It's generally not needed for work but it's often very handy in EDL. Often enough that I've needed it every time I've left it home even though when it's with me I need it less. Not cause and effect, just the odds.

My Watch's flashlight is mapped to the Action button so it's handy but very floddy, short ranged and the Watch gets really warm quickly. Its use is short because I don't need to heat the battery. The flashlight isn't meant to be a primary feature.

There's no getting around the bulk most any light would add to a Watch. A minor issue would be it hanging up a cuff. Being an Apple accessory it wouldn't be cheap. If it could be turned on and off with gestures it would be cost prohibitive but really cool.

It will never see the light of day but if it did I'd at least check it out. The best flashlight is the one you have with you.

  • If you're using a Magic Keyboard, you've opened up an attack vector

So this is really a proof of concept situation where the ration of probability to possibility is extremely very low. Interesting, and maybe good to be aware of for some people in specific situations.

I like a wireless keyboard because I'm not always sitting at the desk and like to watch video from a relaxed posture. Wires just impeded that. A wired keyboard is handy for troubleshooting ie booting into Safe Mode and needing the onboard USB ports in some instances. Also handy if the wireless keyboard needs charging. That would be a first time for me if that ever happens.

Apple doesn't offer wired anymore? That's a little disappointing but I prefer an illuminated keyboard anyway as I'm only a 90% touch typist. 95% if the keyboard has a 10-key.

  • Apple and Goldman Sachs to part ways on Apple Card, no successor named

    iOS_Guy80 said:
This is very unfortunate. The whole credit card, billing, payment, reward program and savings account program has been a very positive experience. Hopefully Apple can find a worthy partner to carry on and even improve this program.
The same is true for me.

This may be why G-S is having trouble. Apple is encouraging responsible responsible use of credit and the Apple Card app does a great job of tracking balance, interest paid, charges, etc. And having the payment due on the first help you make payments on time. The cynic in me say G-S took this on to clean up their image and hoped there would be the typical credit card abuse that would make them money. Maybe they didn't expect so many people to get on board. Somebody knows every reason G-S want out and I'd like to know too.

More importantly I want their successor to give us the same benefits. I'd be happy if it didn't get any better as long as it doesn't get any worse.

For those of us outside the USA who have been waiting for 4+ years for this service, with no hint of it arriving in our countries, we kinda hope the service will die in the USA. Apple needs to think worldwide, and not provide services to Americans only. How many other Apple services are available in the US only?
    What a maroon.

  • Apple Watch Ultra fall detection dials 911 after man with diabetes fell unconscious

Because of my age, Fall Detection enabled when I got my Watch.

If you entered your age when you set up your Apple Watch, or in the Health app, and you’re age 55 and over, this feature turns on automatically. Make sure that your correct age appears in your
Medical ID and your Health Profile. Fall Detection is available only for those 18 or older.
