  • Apple Watch Series 5 -- Review, one month later

Love my aw5. One very annoying thing, however, is that the always on feature doesn't help with something they specifically mentioned in the presentation (if there is a way to fix this perhaps a kind soul will tell me  ). I find that when I am at the gym the most annoying on the old watch was that when you put on a timer or stopwatch the screen would o black before it was done. Ditto when working in the kitchen and hands are full of butter or whatever. With the 5 and os6 I thought this would end but it didn't. Instead of going black the screen goes out of focus so to catch a glimpse of the timer doesn't work.

Beautiful ads both of them. Hard to believe the nature one is all shot on iPhone.

  • These macOS Mojave apps will help you get the most out of the Finder

Anything to let you click in a finder window and create a new FILE?  (Not folder) . I've needed this since day one, and I've had various apps in the past that do this, but each one in turn became incompatible.  Should just be right click->Create New File->(type).  Right now the fastest way I've found is to launch terminal, cd to that directory and type "touch mynewfilename.ext".  Very inelegant.

You clearly are an old (as in ex), Windows user. I am not sure how Windows eve works anymore - I haven't used it since XP, but I remember that Windows Explorer was so much better than the Mac Finder. You could right click and create a file in any open Explorer window

  • Two new books offer very different looks at Apple founder Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs was a saint. A creative genius. And the best huckster the world has ever seen. He made billions of dollars.
I'd argue that your first sentence entirely undermines anything that might come after. We all know Steve was no saint, don't we? He is one of my heroes for many reasons, and I will read both books because I find his story endlessly interesting, but I have few illusions about his sainthood   Like my children - I love'em above anything on this earth and would take a bullet for them without question. I also think they are totally awesome, but I have no illusions about what shits they can be. Steve was great but he was no saint.

  • Apple's work on circular screens could lead to round-face Apple Watch

    Mmm.

Sounds like a lot of complexity and a lot of compromises.
You are probably right isn't digital watch and phone design all about 'complexity and compromise' I used to think a round digital watch face was lame and illogical. It doesn't make sense in terms of a digital display. whereas for a mechanical watch 'round' makes perfect sense. But over time I have come to realize that a round object on the wrist just looks better. It may just be because I am conditioned to think of watches as round but I find the shape more pleasing. Some of the Garmin watches look pretty good and I have been considering getting one. So yeah, a round Apple Watch face, please. Bring it on.
