  • If you can't convert a file into a PDF, maybe you shouldn't be writing laws about technolo...

Find me an unbiased "expert" to guide politicians that don't know tech..   I suspect there aren't any..   you're merely going to wind up with un-elected supposed technical "experts" doing what happens a lot, merely becoming a lobbyist for their position.

  • Gazelle is ending its used device trade-in program

This seems odd, where do they garner used devices for re-sale other than through the trade-ins?  Perhaps there is another source I am unaware of..

  • US government designates drone maker DJI as a national security concern

Civilian drone technology is one thing that DJI/China do better than the rest of the world and by large margin. And they are not copying from other, they are leading.

I don’t see any meaningful drone companies from the rest of the world in this field. The other top 2 also from China, sadly. But again the market is just not that big for big tech to join in. Even other companies joined, the mass production will likely in China anyway.

The one thing that makes me hesitate to buy a DJI drone is they always send data home. I don’t know why and I don’t see the need. And I don’t trust CCP a single bit.

No, DJI Drones do not send data home.. You can chose not to have flight data, which is largely useless anyway sync'ed to a server if you wish to retain data for a long time... Its opt in as well, you have to chose to enable it.  Otherwise the device which logs all your flight data will eventually fill with flight log data unless you manage it yourself.  Which it does require to some degree anyway..

Plus blaming DJI for something they really have no choice in, to me is silly, I may not care one bit for the CCP or how they do things or treat their citizens, but this isn't going to change anything,

  • Apple Music adds animated album covers in iOS 14.3, macOS 11.1

I am willing to bet if Apple raised the bit rate of every song they could, and they didn't tell you, you'd never notice.. The con to a higher bitrate is more data usage.

  • Researchers discover 33 vulnerabilities affecting 'millions' of IoT, smart home devices

The fear-mongering is all the same, you see TV shows that use home devices as ploys for the hacker to do all sort of things, most of which are not remotely possible.

You can try and find relatively secure devices, but nothing is impregnable probably, there are devices that in general you may want to avoid..   But in all the years I've had smart devices, I can say that nothing has ever happened to where I think there was some sort of external intrusion.  My Thermostats have not frozen or overheated my home. My lights have not gone off or on by themselves.  My TV's have not gone off the deep end.

There is a variety of convenience in deploying these devices, done right, there is probably more of chance that something will go wrong with an appliance than your home being taken over by a hacker..
