  • Jony Ive removed from Apple's leadership page, marking the end of an era

I’m pretty sure it’s completely amicable the parting of ways. That Apple isn’t parachuting in some big name designer from outside the company shows they aren’t unhappy with the design ethos he developed there.
That Ives ended up spending some much time on Apple Park suggests that he found a new interest and challenge in working on designs outside of the IT world. Leaving Apple to found his own consultancy will allow him to work on a greater diversity of products than he would have been able to at Apple.
Of course, being an independent consultant still allows Apple to draw on his skills and experience if and when needed. Indeed, the diversity of what he will work on going forwards will only enhance his practical experience.

  • Apple Maps, Weather app now shows Crimea as Russian territory

Unfortunately many companies from the free democracy West are prepared to comply with the requests of authoritarian regimes or ignore human rights abuses in order to sell into their markets or to offshore their manufacturing there. Simply to make more profits.

China has imprisoned one million ethnic Muslims in concentration camps, yet who is pulling their sakes and manufacturing from the country?
China illegally occupied Tibet, Russia the Crimea.
And any western company that dares list Taiwan as a separate country risks being sanctioned by the Chinese government.

  • Apple and Big Tech companies to face increased European regulation

... but worship heavy handed, and almost authoritarian, big government.
Now you know why the UK voted to leave the EU, it's on a path to a centralised authoritarian EU government. There are citizens of other countries who see what is happening or have suffered at the hands of the EU, such as Greece. However once a country adopts the Euro it becomes impossible to leave the EU without its economy being wrecked, the Euro is a trap which thankfully the UK avoided.

The headline is wrong, the OECD isn’t a European organisation; eg USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan etc are all members.
It was originally as Organisation for European Economic Co-operation led by France to help allocate US funds to rebuild Europe after WW2. In 1961 it was reformed and renamed to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. At this time ( 1961 )  it was extended to non European states.

In other words, the headline isn’t wrong, it’s just 58 years late?!? 😆

  • How to use Apple's new Reminders app in iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina

I hold Apple to a higher standard. Do you know why? Because the Apple of 2007-2012 actually cared about that standard.
Looking at the Apple leadership team at https://www.apple.com/uk/leadership/
and I think they are missing a role; Senior VP of Quality.
Ideally a perfectionist like Steve who regardless of the financial cost to the company will slap down and say “no” to any VP wanting to release hardware/ software/ service that fails to meet Steve’s standards of quality and industry leading perfection. The standards that made Apple unique.
