  • Apple shipped 90.1M iPhones in Q4 to oust Samsung as world's top smartphone vendor, report...

    The actual figure is in.

IDC says iPhone sales were up 22.2 percent; it turns out it was actually 17 percent.

IDC claimed Apple shipped 90M iPhones, but sell-through numbers would suggest that it was quite a bit lower. There is a difference between shipped and sell-through, but Maestri mentioned during the call that they had REDUCED iPhone inventory on some models (coughIPHONE12MINIcough) and had constraints on others, and Apple has traditionally tracked shipped and sell-through very closely, unlike some other brands that engage in channel-stuffing.

So no, Apple most likely did not overtake Samsung in shipping overall. Samsung continues to do very well with low and mid-range phones in numbers that would make Cook's jaw drop, largely in markets where Apple doesn't do as well.k

In short, IDC (and Gartner) make up their numbers, are consistently and provably wrong, and anyone paying attention to their numbers (much less paying for their "service") is a fool.
Since no one knows the actual figures ( as Apple does not release them) then what you say is as unreliable as what you claim IDC’s numbers are..

  • Apple to push iOS widgets, App Clips, iPad app ports at virtual developer sessions

I’ve only had one opportunity (well, two really, but different times at the same place) to try using an app clip and it didn’t work the way I expected. It was at the gas pump at a Mobil station. I held my phone up and the app clip slid up but all it did was prompt me to install the Mobil app. What I remember from the WWDC keynote was that app clips would work without having the corresponding app installed. Perhaps I’m not remembering correctly. So, I stopped trying and just continue to use Apple Pay at the pump, which works great.
I had the same issue at Mobil. What a disaster. The app clip process was messy , it downloaded the full app, then app itself then crashed so I just gave up.

  • How Linux was ported to the Apple Silicon M1 Mac mini

A pointless intellectual exercise. You can run a full blown ARM Linux as a VM inside Parallels,VMWare  etc.

  • Scosche Rhythm+2.0 armband is as accurate as a chest heart monitor

Why would anyone buy this over an AW? My AW has shown itself to be always accurate compared to the dedicated equipment at my health care clinic. And ones heart rate varies anyway unless you sit very still..so “more accurate” is hard to see value in. I swim and surf with the AW for years now, with no issues. So waterproof is not a winning feature over an AW.And my AW5 will last a whole day easily with battery life.

  • Parallels 16 for Apple Silicon M1 Mac launches in beta - minus Intel OS support

Windows on ARM is so pointless. Windows remains somewhat dominant because of the vast library of x86/x64 software. Hardly any of which is going to be recompiled for ARM so it can run slower on a tiny sliver of the market ( crappy windows ARM laptops).
