  • Reddit got hacked, and that's not even the most ludicrous news about it today

If they continue on the Huffman path, the unpaid labour pool and users will likely abandon it. Its bizarre that, having seen that this is what’s going to happen, Huffman would risk his entire business on his arrogant presumptions and false sense of urgency.
Thanks for this reply. The tone of the Appleinsider commentary on this is OTT.

However can I offer a slight alternative take to yours?  I use reddit and so do most people I know and none of us use this app. Huffman will have the actual stats on who uses the Web site and official app vs who uses the API. Maybe he knows this 3rd party app is actually a storm in a teacup.

The future of Reddit is via a paid subscription or through advertising.  Twitter apps that bypassed the advertising and refused to pay a subscription were never going to last and the user's who would only access it that way were never going to stay it could be the same for Reddit. These end users that use the 3rd party app may never stay, so why bother cater to them?

Of course failure to engage and manage the whole thing is a spectacular failure that should indeed cause the board to reconsider his role.  But the end result?  Same.

Moderators closing the forums over this is just locking actual consumers of the content out.  I (and everyone else I know) are not contributing to these polls.

  • Early Apple Vision Pro neurological research helps it predict when you'll click

a bit cheeky not to include that in the article

  • You can get a prorated Twitterific & Tweetbot refund, but please don't

My (limited) understanding of this is that they were using the old 'version 1' Twitter API which Twitter had told people not to use for quite some time. Now I believe these app developers did complain that the 'version 2' api was a step backwards in their view, but twitters policy of using api2 did jot change. On top of that, these apps didn't display ads (the thing that pays for Twitter).  All of this was pre-Elon.

Cutting access abruptly and p*s*ng off customers who use those apps and app developers should be condemned.

But the writing was on the wall for quite some time.

  • Wired CarPlay vs. wireless - the pros and cons

We all know that to extend the life of the battery it's better to have fewer charging cycles.

But I spend a lot of time in my car, and of course I connect my phone via a wired connection for CarPlay.

Except then the phone begins to charge.

It doesn't need a charge, my phone will last all day without a charge, just DO NOT CHARGE.

I'm surprised that this was not mentioned in the article.

In fact the article says the opposite - that wired is great because it charges.  I get it that maybe on a long long trip when you are doing a lot of calls that you might want it to charge, but for me doing a couple of school runs a day, it's just shortening the life of the battery.

Note: if the "Clean Energy Charging" feature allowed the user to select the charge times, then this problem would be fixed.  ie: only charge if it's between 10pm and 6am, then I could plug in to CarPlay and the phone wouldn't charge.

  • An Apple Watch on a wrist is a good indicator of which iPhone they have

I like that this article includes the data and the interpretation.  It leaves the option open for us to interpret the data differently.  I was/am a BIG FAN of iPhone SE - I do NOT like large phones.  But since I bought the Apple Watch (which is technically Apple's smallest iPhone) I now buy the iPhone PRO MAX to pair it with.  Why?  Because it stays home (or stays in the car, or stays on my work desk) - I don't carry it with me everywhere like I did the iPhone SE.  When I do carry it, it's generally because I want access to a 'big screen', which the PRO MAX provides.

The data shows I'm not alone in this.  iPhone mini if you don't have AW, iPhone max if you do, because the AW is what you take with you everywhere.  If you are carrying it around, then smaller is better.

Note: if you could pair the AW with an iPad, I'd never buy an iPhone again.  And that's why Apple will never let customers pair AW with iPad.
